A/C problem

Well, trying out the a/c in my car. I know there is pressure in the system and it's maintaining it. There's definitely coolant in the system as it has been 'topped up'.
I know the compressor kicks in cause my engine bogs down when idling. Apparently my system is clogged or something as there's a small eye (I guess) that you can see the coolant moving but it's hardly moving at all.

I was told I need to clean out my A/C system. I've never heard of this.

Any insight on this would be cool. Figures I should be expecting to get this done would be great too. Just for the flush, not the coolant refill. Thanks.

Sorry, this should be in Interior/Audio/Security I think.

First of all, a/c works off refridgerant. Not coolant..

The best way to diagnos an a/c system is to put a set of gauges on it. I can provide you an a/c system check for the prie of 35 bucks.

What happens when u have a clogged a/c system you will see high side pressues of 250+ psi an very very low low-side pressures of around 20-30 psi. Most of the time this is due to a cloged orfice tube due to a compressor on the way out.

Sorry, refridgerant, my bad.

High side pressure is just below 60 psi. The shop I took it to didn't check the low side pressure as I was in a hurry and it was a last minute thing.

From what I hear, 60 psi is ideal for high side pressure.

So I dunno...?

its really dependent of the ambient temp around the vehicle and whether the a/c is on or not. With the car off and an ambient of around 70 degrees ur pressure should be fairly close to 70psi in both lines. With the a/c running the high side should be double the pressure of when the car is off and on the low side should be around 20-30psi.

Hmmm... well, that's 60 psi with the car running and the A/C turned on. With an ambient temp of probably close to 90+. It was a sweltering day, just insanely hot. I will go back and check it out some more, see if I can get the pressure with the engine on/off on both lines. Thanks.

If your A/C was on and the compressor was turning your high side should have been 3 times higher than what your reading so you may have a leak or need the system to be recovered, vacuumed and recharged.

Thanks.
