A/c

As you might know I just picked up a 93 hatch.. originally for a winter vehicle... but the insurance is so cheap, and the car is in amazing condition, so Im gonna keep it on the road all year round for a grocery getter, highway traveller, something i can park downtown ect...

Since its an auto, and not going to be modded for performance I want the A/C working in it for next summer . They guy said he tried charging it a few years ago, but it died again after a few days. So its not holding a charge..

What could be wrong with it? Leak, compressor..? what parts should I hunt for over the winter to get this thing ice cold again? Ive never owned A/C so im lacking knowledge on the subject... :(

BTW I posted in this forum cuz its underhood components... feel free to move it b if u think it belongs in interior.

tnx

in my opinion, we should split the forum in two, performance and maintenance. but that's just me.

you clearly have a leaky seal somewhere... look for an area that's somewhat covered in this thin oily residue, that's where the leak is. :)

hmm..its been dry for 5 years now... might be dificult to find a leak... ill take a good look tho...

I agree with the maintnence forum btw :nods:

ahhh... then you'll have to have the system pressurized and the leak will be self-evident. I usually leave A/C work to the pros. There is no sense in finding the right equipment, or trying to do it with crappy equipment. But odds are after 5 years there is now hella more damage than there was originally, so :( odds are you'll have to rebuild the entire system and convert to the newer refridgerant.
