I'm not sure if this is my brake wear indicator telling me that I need to change my brakes, because the sound does not seem to be consistent and stays even when I'm not braking but only comes on everytime the brakes are engaged. Its a high pitched buzzing sound when braking in reverse and a high pitched screeching when going forward. Its not particularily loud but noticable to say the least. I've checked underneeth the car and in the engine bay near all the belts and pulleys to make sure nothing was snagging or rubbing. What could this be ?

sounds liek the brake pad low warning and it would make different sounds for reverse and forward because the front brakes do less of the brakeing in the reverse direction then they do in the forward direction

get them replaced...

but it makes the sound after I realese the brakes while in motion as well .. so that kinda baffles me.

ok yeah thats baffling .,.... best thing to do is have a look at the brakes could be that the pad is so low it's staying against the rotor when the caliper releases... best thing to do is remove the wheel and look
