buying rims how big should i go?

hey guys im about to buy some motegi gun mtl. rimes for my 93 civic hatch. i want to make the car look clean im going with a lip kit and lowering it what size rim should i go with 16 or 17" ?

imported_QRTR 14-Mar-2004 02:08 AM

I think 16's would look nice...17's would look too big
for your ride ...in my opinion

imported_EG4door 14-Mar-2004 02:37 AM

For 5th gens 16s max. IMO

imported_gatherer 14-Mar-2004 02:52 AM

24" spinners are nice.... use rubber bands :p

I recommend 15 inch rims...

imported_Gatsby 14-Mar-2004 03:17 AM

Yap 16"s are the max you should go. Try to stay around 40 offset, so you won't rub wheels to fender liners....

And stay AWAY from 40 mm sidewall tires!!! Go 45 or even 50. But no 40 mm!! :shooter:

imported_BoOsTd 14-Mar-2004 07:14 AM

16's are a good happy medium between looks and performance, and the tires are cheaper, oh and so are the rims themselfs... But 17s would definatley look nice.

Don't get Motegi's. They weigh a ton. There are lots of deals on Rota's right now.

cee_mon 14-Mar-2004 10:04 AM

15 or 16....

but seriously, there are group buys on Rota C8's somewhere here, I believe, if not over yet
16" are perfect for your ride, lightweight and actually useful, unlike heavy 17"s or bigger

imported_94EG6HB 14-Mar-2004 10:53 AM

15" for ever..

dingus88 14-Mar-2004 10:56 AM

I think the motegi's have a rim called a trac lite of soem ****...looks liek the volk gram lights...probobly light aswell...lol...but ya motegi's are heavy garbage, get soem 15's, maybe a rota, but 15's with some t1s's or azenis rubber woudl be real nice...

imported_empowerd 14-Mar-2004 11:01 AM

Definitely go 18's for looks... light weight 15's for performance

sean john 14-Mar-2004 08:10 PM

thanks

Chigga1 14-Mar-2004 09:59 PM

HEAVY or not.... what r u going for the looks or race???

if looks - go as big as you want... heavy or not...

race - go with something lighter....

just remember that American Racing owns like 70-80% of the rims out there! :)

Hey Gatsby, just so you know, the height of rubber is not measured in mm.

For example, my 205-40-17 is measured like so...
205 - tire width in mm
40- aspect ratio (as compared to width) so the height is 40% of 205mm
17 - obviously rim size in inches

anyways, Sean, I would recommend 205-45-16's myself for your car, 17's look great (see my EG below) but if I was doing it again I'd go for 16's for practicality and comfort. If you're into the bling thing 17's and 18's can fit just fine.

IMO 17's dont look right on eg coupe's or sedans. Get some rota 16's with some nice rubber and you'll be set.

imported2nv 14-Mar-2004 11:54 PM

i put 15's because if you what some comfort and still have a nice ride with out loseing power from heavy ass rims.
but 16's do fill the gap nicely without having to drop the car more than 2"

imported_soso 15-Mar-2004 12:43 AM

yo man, put the delsol on 24"s, n the civic needs 26" riamz, hahaha, n make sure there spinners, then you'll be gangsta

Sleekef 15-Mar-2004 01:23 AM

Id say 15's cause there the perfect rims..I know a girl that has 18's on her del sol an it looks ****ing hot tho...Its all your taste man!!

imported_zc_hatch 15-Mar-2004 09:34 AM

your taste... couldn't have said it better myself.
i have 16" rims and they are plenty big enough but sometimes i wonder what it would look like with bigger wheels
