Highway driving doesnt count for clutch break in.
I broke my clutch in for 800k before i took it over 3000rpms No hard shifts till 1200km and it was fine. IMO I bought Gripforce (Im sure you saw them on ebay if you looked) yeah they might be a no name company but i know alot of guys running Gripforce clutches/combos. i paid just under 300 shipped to my door stg2 clutch 8lbs flywheel and pressure plate was a good deal. |
I know this is a little off topic but no breakin for a puck clutch? can anyone else confirm for this? I'm not sayin it's wrong I've just never heard this, and mines a 6 puck and the info that came with it warns to do a 500k break in.

Exedy clutch on ebay is a good clutch.
It handled plenty of abuse and Nitrous. Lasted 2 years. I would recomend getting a aftermarket lightweight flywheel. They usually go for $150 on ebay.... make a BIG difference. Totally differnet driving experience. It's always a good thing to break in a clutch for 400-5500 of easy city driving. But my Exedy lasted 2 years and I drove it easy for about 10 kms then banged 2nd and 3rd. Lasted 2 years, constant abuse. Mind u this wasnt the oem exedy replacement. This was there stage1. |
powerwise, would a lighter flywheel make the engine rev faster?

Did you get the clutch replaced yet? If not, I would look into further diagnosing your problem first. I have the same problem, where the noise disappears when the clutch is pressed in, and 75% of the shops I have been too have told me it's the input shaft bearing in the Tranny & 25% have told me it's the releasing bearing in the clutch. This is the only reason why I haven't done my repair yet because I'm not confident about the answers I've gotten, and I dont want to have to pay double labour if the first repair doesn't work. I had the problem last year, replaced the clutch, and guess what........problem still exists....I replaced with a brand new Exedy clutch kit, release bearing and all included.

I've seen that exact problem be throw-out bearings AND input shaft bearings. Usually its the input shaft bearing.. but occasionally it can be the release bearing. If the problem was there after you put a new release bearing in, then its the input shaft. |
