Burning Oil ?

Im not sure where the oil is going but every 2000 km my oil level will be at half so I would fill it to the top level on the dip stick. Thing is there is not smoke or any oil spots in my driveway. Does anyone know where this oil could be going?

I check the oil level after the car has been sitting for about 2 hours or so. I change my oil every 5000 km and use 10w30 Castrol Syntec. I used 5w30 before but it made my engine sound much louder then it should. Car has about 160k on the Odo.

Your burning oil.

If you don't have any oil spots on the driveway and you are filling as much oil as you say, your engine is burning oil.

Just keep driving it. Stop doing oil changes every 5K, start doing them like every 10K. Essentially your just changing the filter, cuz as you burn th eoil out, your putting fresh oil in.

In the summertime use thicker oil (20W50).
In the winter stick to 10W30.

5W30 will just make you burn more.

If you really care, you can diagnose the problem area and get it fixed or do an engine rebuild.

What the hell! I guess it's common? Should I get it fixed because I plan on keeping this car for the next 5-6 years.

the only way to fix it is to overhaul either the head or block (or both)

its cheaper to put a new motor in. And by new, i mean buying a used d16

if your planning on keeping it that long, swap a new motor in, your rings or valve seals or even both are worn and would need to be replaced, not worth it for the price of a used d series

Well I just topped it off and it only used about cup full. Im looking to swap another motor in next summer, maybe a H22. I dont know what the downsides of a h22 in a Ek are but I plan on reading up on it. Thanks again guys.

the downside is that your car is going to be slow.

How much do the rules change when you take the car on the track, or autox? I've been to about 4 autox now, and all the time when at high-RPM in 1st gear, i get a puff of white smoke out the tail-pipe I've noticed this on almost ALL honda's in the events - i guess its normal?

I have been told its a good idea to change oil after an event, and i've changed mine after 3 of the 4 events. when i didn't change the oil, i was definately down a quart or more and had to top up.

DJM:>

haha, my EG burns oil too...same amount or more sometimes. I'm on that $6.99 for 4L walmart stuff now and just drive'er but keep an eye on it.

If your looking at 5-6 years of ownership, you may want to start saving for a swap of some sort or a re-build.

I'm just hoping mine dosen't pop anytime soon, slick 50 from time to time helps and I try not to beat on it, but lets face it....when it burns that much oil, I think were on borrowed time.

Oil burnage is normal in high mileage motors especially honda's. Sounds like you only burn 1 litre every 4000 clicks so thats not that bad especially if you like to rev it high alot. I certailny dont see any reason to spend thousands of dollars to fix it, just drive it till it dies!!

yep motor swap is the easiest thing

go bigger u wil apreciate it

a h22 in an ek i think a downside is u cant lower the car as mutch as u would like if u like slammed civics and u may have cv problems cus they are on an agresive angle

other than that new tires every month wil be a problem hahaha

The problem with the H22 is, they all burn a lot of oil. U want a car that doesn't burn oil then dun buy H22. H22 will give u a lot of torque though.
