broken axle

what happens to your tranny when you break an axle?

i had a ball joint break on me and when the wheel swung out it tore the axle in half just wondering what kind of repair cost im looking at...

imported_loudsubz 05-Jul-2004 12:46 PM

so u need new axle and ball joint installed?

axles run around $80 with core exchange, donno about ball joints

yeah but just curious if when the axle broke would the tranny have gotten damaged?? from the free spinning?

imported_loudsubz 05-Jul-2004 01:00 PM

That happened to my dad's old 89 accord.

going like 120km/hr.. front passenger wheel joint snapped and shaft ripped out of the tranny.

The differential was mangled. tranny had to be replaced.
