Which brand?

I am going to do a oil change before winter comes, so I would like to know what is the recommended brand + model of spark plugs to go into an EG?

I am thinking this should suffice for winter.

- Oil Change
- Oil filter change
- Spark Plug change

Can anyone recommend something else for the winter check?

Thank you:cheers:

I would think for all of that, staying with Honda for everything.

If your engine is stock, keep it Honda.

zeeman 13-Nov-2005 02:45 AM

NGK V-power. Get em from crappy tire they're the same thing you would buy for twice as much from honda.

imported_My93Civic 13-Nov-2005 01:56 PM

Thanks zeeman, what about oil filter. Is it best to go to Honda or is their an alternative that is just as good as Honda's?

Ive used FRAM in the past. Im thinking I should go find a synthetic use oil filter to compliment the Mobil 1. Honda filters arent optimized for synthetic are they?

zeeman 13-Nov-2005 02:00 PM

synthetic? Why?
Just go to crappy tire grab a 4L of which ever brand oil you like (non synthetic) and some NGK v-power spark plugs.
I prefer to use honda oil filters only on my car. They're only like a buck or so more than fram or quaker state oil filters, plus honda gives you a new crush washer for the oil pan bolt with every oil filter you buy.

I haven't tried Valvoline before, well at least not on my car. My dad used it before years ago.

Where do you guys buy your oil filters, motor oils from? Is there any other places cheaper than Canadian tire, etc?

imported_loudsubz 15-Nov-2005 09:04 PM

walmart and superstore sometimes have deals on oil

i just get Fram X2 filters from CT

pwllam 16-Nov-2005 02:04 AM

If you have a 2001+ civic, they come stock with platinum NGK spark plugs. CT doesn't carry the right ones for the 2001+ civic. Honda charges $16.68/each...kinda pricey...but they're supposed to give you better mileage and last much longer (100,000+ km) than the V-powers.

But if you have an older civic and don't want to spend too much, just get the NGK V-powers with the corresponding gap/temperature.

Try to stay away from the Honda/FRAM oil filters if u can. They're not very good. Crush washers can be purchased from Honda for about 0.50c each.

Good to know pwllam.

I am going to do the following. Oil filter, oil change, spark plugs, ATF.

I just picked up Valvoline Max Life oil filter for 9.99. The FRAM stuff were expensive, I mean the extended life ones. I'm doing my oil changes every 12,000-15,000KM so I think I picked up a good oil filter. Read some things about it and seemed good.

Anyway I got them V-Powers for $6.99 for 2 as well.

The only things I have left to purchase are motor oil and ATF. I know which motor oil I'm gonna try and that is Royal Purple. I tried Mobil 1 already. I want to try different brands and test them out.

The last thing I need is ATF. The current motormaster ATF I have right now kinda sucks so I plan on getting a good brand.

Thinking about either Mobil's, Royals, or Amsoil's ATF fluid. I checked Amsoil's ATF at CT and its damn expensive for 1L. Approx 11 bucks for a litre of Amsoil. But then again, I heard good stuff about Amsoil.

Thus I ask about places to buy motor oils, etc other than CT or Wal-Mart or any retail chains. I want to see if the small shops charge cheaper, and that sometimes is usually the case.

Sorry, I need to ask if I got my numbers right.

• Engine oil: 3.3L
• ATF: 3L

Is this correct? Amount of fluid needed.

Anybody here use AMSOIL products? I just spent like 1 hour reading their products and have bee drawn in immensely. LOL. Also I have been drawn in, in their promise of extended drain intervals. Like literally 2-3 times the OEM intervals. This obviously can save money.

Can anyone using AMSOIL products give me a review of their 5W-30 motor oil and ATF fluid? How did you like it?

If I get more hooked on, I might just end up putting everything AMSOIL in my car and go extended intervals.
