Brakes lock up in EG

Okay my brother just informed me today that his EG (92 Civic LX Sedan) while driving to work today and again when he came home locked up.

This car has NO ABS. Front stock disc and rear drum brake. Anyways he said in the morning he would go like 70kmh and pressed the brake normally to stop for the red light. When he did, BAM, the car just locked up and he skidded a long way.

He said he didnt even press hard.

The second time was at Dixie intesection coming to a turn. He brake and LOCKED AGAIN...luckily no one was hurt and not much were around. Everyone was staring at him.

My dad went around the block and checked it and said he couldnt feel anything that my bro described.

What could be the problem and does anyone have similar experiences?

I am thinking something is messed because this has no ABS and shouldnt ever lock up.

The car is lowered if that helps.

i would check the calipers. Maybe pull the front brakes apart and inspect/clean the caliper sliding pins, but make sure to use lots of lube when assembling.
Either that, or take it to a shop and let an experienced mechanic fix it. Brakes are very important to have and have operating properly. Don't mess around, get it fixed right away.

does it feel like the front is locking up or the back?

My bro's 92 LX sedan had a similar problem with the back locking up.. The shoes were warped and basically catching on the drums when you barely pushed the brakes.

The other possibility could be the porportional valve. This transfers the right amount of power to the front and back brakes depending on how hard you press the pedal.

prop valves are fixed devices with no adjustment... doubt a prop valve can easily go bad. get dirty and start taking **** apart. that's the only way you'll find the problem. that is.... if there is in fact a problem. maybe your tires are just pooh.
