Last time I went to the dealership (58,931km) I was told my front brakes have approx 25-30% remaining and my rear brakes 40% ... Right now I'm at around 66xxxkm and I feel like I need to change them.

Should I change the rotors as well or just machine them? Or is it tough to say unless you look at it....

Also do OEM pads suffice or are carbon fiber worth the extra dollars?

Also again, am I supposed to clean the caliper change brake fluid, take it apart etc.... Was told I would have too...

eww.. thats really premature for a honda brake parts

I got to 160,000km on my original brakes...well i replaced my front pads at around 110,000 but the rest I did at 160,000, my bro inlaw certifies, he said my rear shoes would of passed no problem. and drumms would of been fine with a machining, but i got new ones anyway, cuz the exterior was flakeing rust...(rotors were done tho)

does si- g has rear disk ?


anyway, unless you are really hard on your brakes, your being taken...

But like you said its impossible for any of us to judge the condition of your brakes without seeing them first hand and measuring thicknesses of pads, drumms and rotors with a micrometer or brake dial indicator gauge...

i mean i bought the car at 45xxx and haven't driven it hard at all so i guess the previous owner loved to brake...

well, id definately get a second opinion... who knows maybe the previous owner did granny foot the brakes... they could be ****ed from poor driving habbits... I cant see or measure thicknesses for you over the internet... so i recomened u get a second opinon. 60k sounds premature, but if your interested in doing an uprgade anyway (like upsized and or drilled rotors and carbon/ kevlar pads) then go for it... its your money right...

60k doesnt sound premature for brake pads, i see them come in 25k at work allt he time. Rotors.... that does sound a little premature, but i dont know your driving habits so its hard to say.


Just do a full frotn brake job, pads and rotors are cheap these days, only takes 5 min a side also.

Well I would say it all depends on your budget...

for me since I was on a tight budget and after talkin too a couple of honda mechanics...

they told me that its alright too machine the rotors but change the pads..

so I changed the pads to AEM ones and machined my OEM rotors..plus I got the brake fluid drained and replaced.

and too this date everything is working great...

my car is a 00 Civic SI with 81,235 KM...

take a look at them yourself. grab a caliper and measure the rotors, then reference with the min. thickness cast into the rotor. IMO, for the price ($50/each from Parkway) I'd ****in replace them and pair them up with some Hawk pads up front.

I agree though, my original brakes lasted to 110K kms, and even then I only changed them because I wanted to upgrade.
