brake rotors and calipers
just wondering. my car is up on blocks still from the winter, and i'd like to clean up my rotors and stuff as my new rims for this year are a little more open.
i've never cleaned the rotors up before so they're all rusty and crap. is there a way i can get a nice polished look (or at least clean)? Or am i fooling myself and i just need to buy new ones? lanks... |
there is brake cleaner for that, found at napa auto etc, but i used a can of electrical terminal cleaner that i had lyin around cuz i didnt feel like buyin a whole can

Is it a big job to take the brakes off so you can clean them?
|
not if you can bleed your brakes, it's not a big job.
also, paint them flat black or something... you'll never get that CLEAN look out of them again. |
yank the calipers and brakets. buy a couple of wire brush wheels for your drill and wire brush away, give them a good soap clean after with a good automotive chemical cleaner then paint away. remember to plug brake line hole in caliper if you do this before anything else

run a rough (150grit) sandpaper over the area where the pads grab, it'll clean off the rust and it gives a bit of a rougher surface which is easier for the pads to grab. Scratch up the surface don't shave it down.. hehe
