Brake Question

what does it mean if my brake pedal feels all sooft.

like it doesn't grab instantly.

does it mean air is in my lines?

or does it mean my master cylinder is gone because there is air in th elines.

does it have anything to do with air in the lines?

coz i'm getting really frustrated with htis air bubbles...wish i could punch things out and get them working instead of actually compromising with it

BEING A MECH SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well from my experience brakes don't grab right away there will be a bit of pedal play...(and if you know where the play is you can rest your left foot on it and use some left foot braking fun)

anyways a soft pedal is when you push the brake pedal past the point of play and you feel no resistance to your push... this is very very very scarey as it happened to me while on the DDT (driver development track at mosport) .... lets just say I learned how to use my tires to scrub off speed... oppps

anyways ... point is there is a difference between play (movement of pedal before feeling resistance) and soft (feeling no resistance after play) you might want to check your rear brakes and consider adjusting them because that affects the point of play.....

why do you want play when your brakes grab immediately.

i wish i can fix this stupid problem but i tried everything.

just finished bleeding all brakes and i did it the long way so there is no way in hell there is air in the lines.

someone said that if i steeped on the brake while bleeding all the way to the floor i might have damaged my master cylinder.

now how much am i looking to get this fixed for(MC only )?

what other tests can i do to be sure somehting in my brake system has died?

thnaks for all opinions

play is important... like if there was no play and you touch your brakes and they are full 100% on at that time... thats no good because you will never be able to control it .... you'd lock up tires and swing your rear end around faster then a folk art dance....

anyways some play is good ...(like 10% of the pedal)... but after that you don't want the brakes at 100% as soon as you past the point of the play... you want them to come on gradually that way the brakes are easier to control... 100% lock should be at 90% of pedal travel.....

If you are certain both your m/c and the lines are bled properly, then you can adjust your rear shoes to get rid of the percieved play.

what if my MC is broken will this affect my brakes.

how cna i tell if its broken other than the method you told me...car off step on brake and see if it holds pressure coz i'm pretty sure i'm not doing somehting right.

i think it doens't hold pressure. i think its bombed.

i guess i will drive to a dealership and ask a mechanic t take a look at it.

thansk guys
