brake question

Hey guys,

Was looking over the brakes on the weekend for my POS 93 dx. The pedal has to go pretty much right to the floor when stopping, but the brakes work reasonably well. I looked at all the lines, no leaks, lots of pads and rotors are good, calipers move freely, whats left, brake master cylinder alittle weak? I bleed the brakes too and there was no air in the line. Adjusted the rears but still same result.

I want to look into adding an integra brake master if it fits my EG, because the stock unit does not offer confident braking. Car has 249,000km and is 13 years old, so i'm thinking the stock unit is worn out. Any ideas?

Horn is shot too, no blown fuses and the wiring is all good, horn unit itself packed?

Could be the master cyl. Not sure how to check it though...just make sure there are no leaks.

As for your horn, test the wires at the horn for voltage...if you've got power to the horn and it doesn't work, then the horn is toast or the connections could be rotted away.

master cylinder internal leak. get a rebuild. Get all the air out of the new master before you install it. As for the horn, see if the connector are ok, test for the wire to see if you got voltage and ground. If yes, then get an air horn.

like everyone said, go ahead with the new master cyl. if you want an integra master cyl, you'll need an integra booster as well... and then you'll have to reflare your brake lines with bigger fittings. or you can just get a master cyl and booster off like a del sol or Civic Si or EX... those should have 15/16 master cyls.

You probably didn't adjust the rear brakes probably.

Your MC is fine if the pedal doesn't sink. Like you firm (you stopped) then it sinks slowly down. If it does that.. i'd check your wheel cylinders first, just pry back the dust boot a bit see if theirs fluid.

If you just have a low brake pedal, meaning its low to the floor before it actually brakes, than your rears are out of adjustment. I quick way to check this is to count the number of clicks on the parking brake.

If you have a sinking pedal then its a leak somewhere, it may be internal or external.

Thanks, the pedal goes down quite a bit to stop, but once there if you push it feels spongy and can bottom out. The braking is all there when you get the pedal pushed to that point, but its definately not a quality feeling brake pedal like my EL had.

I'll take a closer look at the cylinders, but I did not see any fluid. The E-brake takes 3-4 clicks to stop the car with e-brake only, the 4th click will lock the rears.

I'll have a closer look again next weekend. With the car parked, pump the pedal and the pedal gets very firm, its only when driving that it feels sloppy when pushing the pedal, if that helps.

okay, bad master cylinder, brake line leak, or wheel cylinder leak.

3-4 clicks means the rears are adjusted fine.
