brake problem...maybe

hey whats up guys and gals
ok i'm driving down the road and for some reason i have to slam on my brakes, now when i do this the brake don't feel right and you can actually feel the pedal jumping all around, almost as if the calipers are lose or something, but it only does it when you really slam the brakes on.
now i've never had abs in a car before, but i assume this can't be what it feels like when it kicks in...atleast i hope not.

does anyone know what this could possible be or had it happen to them before?

Do the newer civics have ABS? cuz when you lock up the brakes with ABS the pedal with go up and down really fast.. Trust me it feels like your brakes are gonna explode but that's the purpose so you don't lock up and spin out.. Greatest thing to have in the winter..

If you don't have abs and your pedal does that when you press the brakes hard is because you got WARPED rotors.. change the rotors and pads..

does your car have ABS? Yes, ABS DOES feel like the pedal is fighting back and there is like a rythmic grinding noise associated with the ABS working. Try it out in a safe and CONTROLLED manner one day to be sure... you should know what it feels like so you don't freak out when it happens to you inadvertantly.

Might be ABS, or it might be warped rotors?

I'd put my money on the ABS.

well if you dont feel like going out (or arnt confident enough) and jamming your brakes on to find out u have abs... Find out the easy way.... heres what you do, be very carful tho, i take no responsability for you spining out or trashing your car...

OK here it goes, this is a secret tho so

When you get in your car next time, turn over the key without engageing the starter, look on your dash and there will be an abs light that comes on to let the driver know the vehicle is equipped with abs brakes... (abs standard in all equipped vehicles)

Thats it! if the light comes on you have abs, and thats the pulsation your feeling under heavey brakeing... if theres no abs signal light on the dash then sorry your rotors are warped!

Here's an easier way to tell if you have ABS. Look on your dashboard and see if you have an A/C button. If you do then the car that you bought is an Si-G and is equipped with ABS. Or you could just pay attention to what you're buying next time you drop 20 G's on something.. just kidding ya.

Yeah the ABS in the Civic is not the most civilized. You can hear the system kicking in with a whirring noise that you can hear through your dashboard. Then the brake pedal pulses and the car comes to a nice, although jerky, stop. The fact that the Civic weighs so little is why it feels like its doing something wrong.
