Brake Problem on 91 Si Hatch

ok..... we finished a JDM ZC swap.... finally got leaks taken care of.... last problem... the brakes....

we bled them and they are firm as hell..... when the car is going very slowly, or at a stop light, they are firm as hell..... but when you drive then brake to stop at a traffic light, the pedal goes all the way to the floor before it engages......

anyone have any ideas??? let me know if you need more details...

sounds like you missed some air. Hows the fluid level?

ya B thats what we think it was, and there was a lose vacuum hose, when we fixed it, it was still mesed up, so im thinking there is another hidden leak somewhere..

and tim, fluid is right where it should be..

well, rather than chasing down hoses, hook up a $20 vacuum gauge and find out for sure! save yourself days of confusion... if there is no vacuum leak, check the wheel cylinders in the car. The car was fine before the swap though, so you're pretty sure it's the engine, right?

if a vacuum leak is present, there is something you can spray over the engine to help you locate the leak... I forget what it was.

i use oxygen at work to check for vaccum leaks, but you can also use propane or brake cleaner, the vaccum sucks it up and you'll hear the idle soar.

yes B we are sure its the motor.... his car had amazing brakes before the swap, which is why we are so mad.... its brakes kicked ***

you mean brake cleaner as in rotor cleaner or electricl terminal cleaner? that pure alcohol stuff that evaporates in a matter of seconds?

and another quick question..... about the ZC..... this guy who works at a shop told my friend that hooking up an LS computer to the ZC (instead of his current SI computer... BTW could this be the cause of the braking problem?) that the LS computer would make it, as he put it, "quick as hell"

he also said the same about putting a CTR computer in my Y8...

is this true?.... i told him that it wouldnt probably run right because its settings are for two separate cams....

With the car off push the brake pedal down...turn the car on...does the brake pedal go down further to the floor? If not it could be the booster.

the computer won't cause these problems, it's just not smart to have an LS computer run a ZC engeine. A CTR computer for your Y8 is just retarded.... maybe he thought you had a 99-00 Si??

and yes, THAT brake cleaner.
