brake problem

Hey...

I just started having this problem with my brakes today....

so I was driving along no problem, and comming to a red light i start to step on the brakes.. but there was no resistance... the brake pedal was pretty much floored and then my wheels locked

so pretty much, the brake pedal does nothing until its floored, then it applys the brakes heavily

then after i pumed it a few times, it returned to normal

then when i drove a bit more, it happened again.

does anybody know what might be causing this?

Thanks!

air bubbles in your lines.
its too cold outside so the bubbles are affecting the car more.
get the lines bleed and make sure that your fluid level is topped up.
if the fluid level isnt topped up.....have it topped up and then apply the brake pedal a couple of times and see if there is fluid still in the resovoir if its not or it went down significantly it might mean there is a leak somewhere.....lines.....brake booster etc....

press the brakes a few times to get some pressure in the lines and get out of your car. Check by each wheel to see if there is any brake fluid leaking on the ground. Also check on the carpet under your pedals to see if there is any brake fluid leaking. It will bleach the carpet so it will be easy to spot.
Like Jay said, there could be a leak in the brake booster (which you won't see because its an internal leak) or it could be bubbles in the lines.

I had the same sort of problem in an old car of mine. It was the MC that was causing my problem.

Look for any leaks from the Master, calipers, cylinders or lines first. If they are okay then you are looking at an internal master problem.

The booster sounds okay. The pedal would get hard if there was a leak in the booster.
