brake pads
can this be a DIY or is better to gt it done somewherE? EK civic

diy for sure... mad easy for anyone who is a little mechanically inclined.
|
easy get a manual....and also save yourself a headache and put new rotors on there while your at it
|
its literally 4 bolts and 2 screws.
THe hardest part would be the 2 set screws on the rotor. See if you can get an impact driver for those..makes it easy as pie |
ya very easy as chris said try to get an impact driver for the set screws and im pretty sure its a number 2 phillips bit for the set screws....but if your not replacing or taking your rotors off you dont need to worry about those
|
whoops.. i thought he said front brakes. In that case.. doing your pads is easy as pie. You'll need a 12mm and a 17mm. If you have a torque wrench.. the specs are 18 ft lbs for the 12mms and 80 ft lbs for the saddle bolts (i believe). Don't over tighten the 12mm bolts.. i've seen them snap.

how would i know whether to change the rotors or not?
|
you can tell by driving. If you feel the steering wheel shake under braking.. the rotors are warped. If you had a mic' and could measure the thickness that would be great. There's also runout..
but basically.. just look at them and if they have vary thicknesses and look worn down and have are scoured, change them |

do not question my knowledge lol i did see u get 96% on the Braking System exam

whats the diff b/w blank and slootted/ cross drilled rotors...
and would you stay OEM pads or go for that KVR stuff that teknotic has.. |
blank rotors are just the flat surface rotors like your stock ones, cross drilled rotors have a cross drilled hole pattern in them to dissipate heat better, same thing with slotted but slotted rotors will eat your pads up
