Brake noise

well, i just took my car our for a cruise for the first time in almost 2 years! everything still runs perfectly however after I came off the highway and started stopping at lights there was an awful squeek that came from my front brakes. now I dont believe that it can be the pads because the were changed just before i put the car away and probably only have 2000 km's on them. does anyone know what this may be? could it be the actual caliper making this noise? I have KVR cross drilled rotors and KVR pads. Thanks

I think there is a little clip thingy on the OE brake pads and rotors and when you go aftermarket rotor, some people take them off result in squeeking sound.

I'll check that in the morning but i don't think it cold be that because before i put the car away there was never a noise...

I don't think it comes on right away. My gf's car recently got pad and rotor replaced to aftermarket ones and then that noise came on a while later. She had to go back to factory rotor. This is a Toyota car.

well..... i drove the car around my block this morning and there was no sound! do you think that my brakes were to hot or something after driving for about 2 hours on the highway? I still dont think that they should make any noise regardless

it was most likely rust on the rotors I had that issue after one winter.... I don't use the stuff I leave on over a winter to drive it with now....

say what??!!..?

basically I store the car with one set of rotors and pads and I change them when I go drive in the summer... first thing I do before putting the car back on the street ....

You may want to take the brakes apart and lubricate everything, though.

imported_My93Civic 04-Sep-2004 09:20 PM

No your okay. Its typical stuff if you store your car for a long time and sometimes in conditions which can get your rotors dirty, etc. You did the trick...Drive it around and it will go away in time. Just like my car which the sound went away once I got it out of the garage...Plus the integra we just got from a sale...Hadn't been out for a long time so inside the braking system theres dust and crap...It just goes away eventually when you drive and brake regularly.

NO bggie man, don't worry bout it no more.

if the cars been sitting that long, you still should take them apart, and clean them. Preventative maintenance is key! It takes 20 mins., so why not.
