brake lights stay on sometimes....

Ok i have an intermittant problem where the brake lights stay on somtimes after i press the brake and release. It happens very rarely, but it does soemtimes. The brake pads and rotors were chagned before winter and the braking system was flushed and filled last summer. I'm thinking there is something sticking and not allowing the brake pedal to come back up fully even thought it seems to be up completely the times where the brake lights are on. Anything that i can free up by lubing anything on the brake pedal or is this a completely different problem?

There is a brake switch on your pedal that tells the car you are pressing your brakes.

Make sure that switch is operating properly. Look under the driver side dash where the pedals are, you'll see it.

Check to see if your prop valve is sticking or not.

i looked under there and i saw a small little pushpin type mechanism that the brake pedal hits when it returns to the resting position. im thinking maybe it is not being depressed all the time, is there any bolt or admustment that will allow me to move it up a little?

get someone else to stand behind the car, then just press the switch.. make sure lights come on, then release and see if the lights are staying on.. mess with it and see if anything changes.

The brake pedal should not be touching it or maybe just barely be on the mark, the switch should be totally release if the pedal is at rest.

if you look higher you'll see how the brake pedal is attached. I think there's a couple of bolts and a spring to get the pedal to release back.

there is the brake switch above the petal where the push button thingy is. (white switch over here, wires coming out) your problem might be there. when it is grounded the brake lights come on so your brakelights are grounded past pedal usage, so there might be either the mechanical part of the switch is stuck or the switch receives fluctuatingly ground because of electric issues.

i actually finally got around to adjusting it today because i totally forgot about the issue. there is a switch that is screwed into a nut that is welded onto a bracket. i just loosened it and twisted the switch so ti protrudes more and tightened the nut. problem solved. pain in the *** getting down there especially when it is so damn hot outside, lol
