brake life on 98 Civic EX

My wife's 98 Civic EX has 67,000km on it and we are still using the original brakes, pads, shoes, rotors, etc all around... Is this normal!!! I have never heard of brakes lasting this long..

I understand that the front brakes have "squeelers" on then so am I safe to just wait until I hear the "squeel" before I take it in for a brake job???

Do Speedy and Midas still offer free inspections??? Has anyone been there lately to have one done? I am always woried that they will give you the hard-sell once your car is on the hoist.
Thanks,

yeah i think that's all pretty normal for a honda! ask audiophilia, weren't you talking the other day about how few things you've had to replace on your car and you've had it for 11 years, and i think something you were mentioning was the breaks?

and yeah they do have squealers, they worked on my moms car and you definatley know when they're going off..... loud as hell

You change your brake pads somewhere between 70,000 and 80,000 depending on how you drive. I drive a 99 Ex and just changed them recently because I hit 75, 000 and changed them just to be safe. But they still had about 30% pad on them at that time. I decided to change them anyway because I didn't want to do in the middle of winter, too cold outside. You can check yourself simply by jacking up one tire, take it off, and have a look at the pad itself. You can tell how much you actually have then.

I've seen pads last for 2 weeks so it really depends on how the person drives.

I changed my original pads at 60,000km.
