bottom end build

for a b20 bottom end what would be a good decent build.
parts
machine work etc.

would it be realiable?
power gains?
gas usage?

God damn 16 weeks for delievery. It can take almost two years for a custom crank and stroker..damn

i'd say, RS machines 84.50mm pistons ($300US) use stock rods with ARP rod bolts and have the large end of the rods honed, balance EVERYTHING (pistons, rods, crank, crank pulley, flywheel, pressure plate) and if you wanna rev the bag out of it (which i know you do) it would be a good idea to get a crank girdle (z10) and ARP hardware all around (head and main studs).
IMO this is a great budget-ish done-the-right-way b20vtec that with good tuning will make some serious power, and won't break the bank b/c you didn't have to buy all forged components. Great power has been made with those RS machines cast pistons. I've just received the 81.50mm ones to use in my build, very nice pistons and the 81.50mm ones were half the price of the 84mm ones.

i was thinking about going with wisco 12.5comp which i think is 85.5mm bore.

85.50mm bore?
Not what i would do on stock sleeves. They're sort of thin to begin with. Then you wanna bore it out 1.5mm and rev the bag out of it. The piston speed will be through the roof, the amount of stress on the cylinder walls will be really high and IMO thats just asking for trouble.

With those RS machines pistons i was talking about the CR is 11.5:1, so with how much your head is milled it will get you to about 12.5:1.

a mild budget build is al follows for a b20

rs machine pistons
fresh hone, rings, bearings

arp rod bolts

banlanced

that is a decent little bottom end rebuild

your looking at 11:1 ish compression depending on head gasket, decked, flat valves etc

perfet for some mild cams

I have thought it out alot and that's pretty much what I would do that and some bc3+ cams which make not much more power past 8200 anyway so it's perfect

the compression on those RS machines 84mm pistons is 11.5:1 with a b16 head (which he has) and his head is milled a bunch.
But ya, i see dingus agrees with me, b/c he said basically the same thing i did.
For the street forged internals on a n/a build isn't necessary IMO.

my head is shaved 20 thousands. im gonna grab some sleves so i can get that bigger bore.

and i would never rev the **** out of my motor.

so you mean 9500rpms wasn't revving the **** out of a stock block b20vtec?

Do some research on piston speed and how a larger bore and big stroke effect the mean piston speed, and what can happen.

ya, but your compression will be higher than 12.5:1 with how much your head is milled.....it will be about a little over 13:1 which IMO is too much for the street/pump gas.
Not to mention you will either need to run forged rods or have your stock rods modded for floating wrist pins.
