mine was doing that too and then it didn't start rite, it would take about 8 seconds to turn over, and lack of power, then if you rev it then i got blue smoke. Changed my air fiter, guess it was running rich...

my car only tends to puff blue smoke when i start it up and for about 5 minuites it puffs out then nothing!!!!!!!! untill 5000 rpm im tending to think thats the valve seals when the car sits over night the oil leaks down the valves and sits in the cylinder/intake and when i fire it up starts to smoke till it burns off !!!!!!

if you've got blue smoke it's because you have oil goign into your exhaust...might be the psv valve....just need to replace it

There's oil in the mixture somewhere that's being burnt, I don't think that's a cheap repair.

pick up a sohc zc for 3-400 bux and you got a fresh motor for cheap....seeing how you got a 1990 I bet yoru motor is on it;s way out the door.
