blown turbo?

ok soo the other day i was driving and decided too give it a bit down this one street. turbo kicked in and all fine. then a few mins later i turn the corner look in my rear view mirror, and theres a cloud of smoke behind me at fist i thought it was white but its actually a light blue almost white...

tempature gauge is fine no bubbleing on the dip stick too segest its a head gasket...

soo i asked my mechanic too take a look and he said almost right away its the turbo somting about the seal inside or somthin? (wasnt paying enuff attention i guess?)...and the oil goes down the more it runs soo im not driving it now but anyways just curious if that sounds right?? or do yous think it could be somthing else

by the way the car is a 1991 toyota mr2 turbo (jap specs)

250-500$ to pull and rebuild a turbo is about the price you'll get (highly depends on where you go) One shop told me 150$ to rebuild a turbo once.. and another one told me 400$.

Anyways.. remove your chargepiping check if theres oil in there, if so.. the seals are most likely gone. You can also check the shaft play of the turbo to see how the seals are.

Keep in mind that the MR2 is mid engine and is a pain in the ass to work on. Labour times will obviously be higher. I would expect them to be double or even triple regular time.

Good luck.

yah... the mr2 is not a friendly engine to play with..
