hey guys i just wanted to know if my valves are garbage now that ive taken the head off and looked at one of the cylinders there more carbon build up than the other ones.same thing with the corresponding piston.

did you blow your headgasket? What did the spark plug look like from that cylinder?
Spray some brake cleaner into the intake/exhaust ports and see if it all leaks into the combustion chamber. Carbon build up on the valves is normal. Especially on a cylinder that has the coolant leaking in due to a blown headgasket.

make sure the cam is out when you do what andrew said, i would get a valve job regardless. if this is high milage engine there is a good chance that the exhaust valve guides are shot. go get it checked out by some pros.

im pretty sure the headgasket wasnt blown i bought the engine off a member here and the oil seems to have no sign of coolant in it the headgasket was in decent shape when i took it off.the sparkplug all seemed pretty rough when i took them out.

ya i would do as steve says. And at a bare minimum get it resurfaced to make sure its nice and flat. A valve job would definately be a very good idea, but then it can start getting expensive, especially once you start replacing valve guides and valve seals.

yeah because my budget is already way over what it was suppose to be and i still have to pay for tuning and my exhaust i think i might just vaccum out all the carbon and get the head resurfaced.

zeeman, coolant leaking into a cylinder would not cause carbon deposits, it would actually clean the cylinder ie. steam clean. The valves would look white as they do in cylinder to the right.
