blew my 3rd motor up :(
wel this 1 kinda wasent my fualt
1st 1 was a d16y8 spun bearing whist raceing
2nd one b18a1 piston rod through front and back of block low oil it was burning it faster than i thaught
this one was another b18a1 but this 1 was harder 2 diagnose
was going up a v steep hill reving kinda hard and i get 2 the top and slight hesetation then nothing just stalled and wouldent start it just kinda backfired and sissed and wined trying 2 start
so off comes the rocker cover and mmmmmmm the back cam was jumped 1 notch on the belt and throwing off the timeing so i took the belt off and ltimed it all up again belt was tight and stried 2 start it and it was trying 2 start but pure black smoke pissing out the back and it wouldent run
than what do u know another backfire and now white smoke this was all wierd
so took it all apatr and turned out that the bearing in my dizzy had gone so thet was soo ****ing stif 2 turn it was causing the cam 2 not want 2 turn and jumping the belt over the notches and throwing off the timeing and blowing up the motor o well
anybody ever have that happen ??
so figured time 4 a new motor
i had a spair so i preasure tested the spair and guess what its ****ed soo bad in piston 4 looses compretion 90%
so call the scrap yard and they have a b18 there so we go pick it up its a nice clean b18b JDM unknown K so i picked it up $400 and threw it in there new clutch new tranny and wow im inpressed its nice and wuiet and tons of torque
but my problem is i had a tranny grind in 3rd and 4th so now i have new clutch and new tranny it shouldent do that its soo mutch smoother but on the way home i got grind in 3rd and 4th ??
any ideas ???
its a b18 in an ef with just some welded shift linkages somebody home made them could that be the cause of my grings???
they arnt bad just noticeable

i've seen the bearing on a honda dizzy seize up a few times, but fortunately they were caught/fixed before it seized while driving.
The welded shift linkage could definately be causing your grinding.....especially if it did it before and after the new(er) tranny. But normally (from my experiences) the cut/welded linkage usually gives a problem with shifting into 3rd or 5th.

I've changed 2 distributors in the last 2 years from bearings starting to sieze. At first you hear a scraping sound from the dizzy as well as a starnge smell under the hood. I was fortunate enough to have caught the problem in time and avoided engine failure.
