How much horses are you pushing?
|
well when i get my new engine i hope to be pushing 185 to the wheels.
|
u dun need big brakes for 185whp.... maybe when u're beyond 300-350whp... that would be something nice imo

here are my brakes on my crx. accord wagon calipers, prelude 11.1" rotors. hawk hp+ pads. they work great.

i have used brembo grand turismo brakes on the street and they are very very sensitive and loud. i wouldnt use them on my car. upgrade your brake fluid, pads, and get some steel braided lines and you will be good to go.

Honestly, big ass brake kits are for cars that need to reduce speed from high speed down to cornering speed. But again, as long as you have the money, why not.
|
get the motor first
:dito: 185 whp, what motor would that be??? |
upgrade to ITR brakes :)

how did we go from brakes to engines
|
my set-up will be brembo blanks and EBC pads. And I'll be running around 200whp. It's not necessary to upgrade to a big brake kit(edit)

I i might be wrong, but i never see too much need of a bigger brake for low hp/torque cars... and usually (not always) track or drag cars have 180+whp (200hp at the crank)... i'm not saying there's no stock or low hp cars on track or at drags... but i think those people would prefer better suspension instead of brakes for those kinda hp/torque... again, i might be wrong... but that's just what i thought at first =) |
Originally posted by t_dot_SiR maybe i'm wrong, but even if its for track or drag... with lil power, with lil top speed... you don't likely require that much braking power.... less power means longer time to reach higher speed and the top speed should be lower??? i might be wrong, but i never see too much need of a bigger brake for low hp/torque cars... and usually (not always) track or drag cars have 180+whp (200hp at the crank)... i'm not saying there's no stock or low hp cars on track or at drags... but i think those people would prefer better suspension instead of brakes for those kinda hp/torque... again, i might be wrong... but that's just what i thought at first =) |

actually i know what i want to do. i want to buy a gsr then later add turbo to it. thats why im asking if anyone here has a big brake kit? also how much do big brake like omni and wilwood run for?
|
why are you selling your brake kit on the classifieds section if you already have them?
|
yeah didn't you also have them up for $850 before? they can be found online for around that price including currency exchange and shipping, etc..

price drop to 1000
but they are sold. |
Bud someone already said what to do, put the brake off of a Prelude, (if I remember correctly the 93-95 Prelude are 4 bolt and will bolt on faily easily) save's you hundreds of $ for other stuff and gets the job done very well!

you guys are nerds. the HP you have has nothing to do with what kind of brakes you need. a stock civic can do a buck ninety, you don't need 30 thousand horsepower to go 'too fast'.
civics are fantastic cars because they are relatively lightweight. lightweight cars stop well, but with just a lil work they can stop better. I DO recommend the Accord Wagon calipers and the 11.1 inch rotors, with a minimum 15/16 master cylinder, and rear disks. that would be my street setup of choice. however, it all depends on how and where you drive. for example, my daily driver has $20 motomaster (made in china) rotors with $45 NAPA pads. that's because I drive that car like grandma would. so again, what YOU do is a personal choice. |
I agree with bbarbulo 100%. Just cause you dont have 500hp doesnt mean you wouldnt want good brakes. All depends on your driving.
If you want them and can afford them, why not? All it will do is make it a bit safer for you. Might not have the "bling" factor as new rims, or lips or anything like that but who cares. I bought a brake upgrade and after having them on for a bit I can't imagine not having them anymore. I think for any car I get in the future or anything like that good brakes will be one of my first modifications. I say go for it dude, but dont waste your money on those wilwood or aem brake kits. You can modify integra spindles to accept bigger rotors. But honestly man, some new blank rotors, invest in some really good pads and fluid and maybe a new MC/BB with the 40/40 prop valve and your set. |
