JDM has higher compression, so it has around 10more hp and 5more lbs of torque

hard to find one that's not beat within inches of it's life on the JDM market. Most ppl find they have to rebuild within a year, and if they say they don't...they just haven't really looked USDM gets my vote for parts accessability too

correct me if I'm wrong but the jdm b16a's never had the '1' designation. That is a US designation. Honda uses 4 character codes for import motors and 5 character codes for export motors (i.e., b16a for JDM, and b16a1,b16a2 for USM, b16a5 for UK, etc.)

JDM engines will typically only have 60000 km on them due to strick emissions and heavy taxes are place on car with over 60000km. the taxes so high that it is cheaper to buy a new car.

US engines are more likely to be beaten on. In Japan, the market is saturated with b16a's (ie. even grandmas drive them), but in north america mainly lead foot kids buy and drive them.

I'm not saying that JDM motors aren't beat on, I'm just saying that US motors are just as beaten. What I do know is I beat the living snot out of my JDM b16a every day of its life (I figure its got about 90k on it and I put about 5-6k a month on it) and I don't see it dying any time soon. With a few bolt ons it is the funnest engine out there. Love the high redline.

i dunno, how come everyone designates them as B16A1, A2, A3? i know which they are all from, b16a1 from the 4th gen civics, b16a2 from sir, and b16a3 from the del sol, right?

I don't know much. All I know is I have b16a on my jdm block, and my two buddies have b16a2 on their blocks (us motors).

if you have the money go JDM but if not then go US spec. Im goin US cause easier to find and alot cheaper........money is the main factor in my decision, both engines are sick (love the killer b's)

Atomic, if you already have it, stick with it, esp considering that money is a concern. If your bottom end is giving up the ghost, then replace it with a B18B short block and go from there.

The way the Japanese laws are, they have a yearly inspection AND tune up. Typically oil changes, plug changes, timing belts, etc, are put on hold until that mandated tuneup and only done once a year. Have a look under an imported b16 valve cover not exactly shiney...

I was just saying that they are not maintained well, even if they only have 30k on them, and are far from new.
As bbarbulo said, expect to rebuild...
