best way to know if wheel bearings are messed!

i own a 1990 EF i know to hear for a humming noise.. the wheels are off they seem the spin fine i dont know what to hear or look for tightness ? maybe .... one of my dust caps were rusted off it was causin some noise untill i cleaned it out.. .. i ordered new shoes cylinders drums for the rear. I just dont know if i should replace the bearings as well.. any input ... thanks

To find out if it is your wheel bearing. When u drive at any certain pts especially at higher km u will hear like a roaring noise all the time. Check to hear which side it is. Also check the front end to see if there is any play. Sometimes u might feel up and down and side to side play and they are loose. Which means wheel bearing.

If you have access to a hoist run the car on it and use a stephescope

it would also sound like a wheel bearin if your tires are worn unevenly

best way is what newman just suggested. A few things can confuse you and may sound like a wheel bearing, but it might not be

Lift up the car (at the corners where you think the wheel is problematic) and pull and push the wheel facing you. If the wheel can move in and out, that means it is time to change your hub/bearing.

im just goin to replace them anyways they are probaly worn anyway.. since the car is a 90 i have no idea when they were last changed ... but next time i will try pushing and pulling

one of mine was gone in the front on my car... it made the worst noise.. put it this way, i turned heads when i drove by, but not because of my 6" ebay fart can either..

jack car up grab tire at top adn bottom rock wheel adn have someone look at where the axle connects to the hub (ie wheel bearing) and look for movement

will take about 2 seconds to figure if it's bad or not
