I've often anted to ask the same question about strut settings.
Edumicate me...
So the back should be a bit stiffer then the front?
What would change if the front was stiffer then the back, or if the front and rear were the same?

overview..
I use stock springs in the race car. My car actually oversteers when I set it up right. which I do with tire pressures and shock settings.
My race setup: 2 of 5 in the front and 5 of 5 in the rear (I have Tokico Illuminas) and last year with Kumho Escta V700 tires I Used 40 PSI in the front and 38 PSI in the rear...
I also have 1/4 inch total toe out in the front and zero toe in the rear.
I get oversteer when I want it. and the car is nicely balanced for the track.
Now when I'm on the street I hate having the shocks set at full stiff in the rear why? because even with the stock springs it still sends every bump through my Body. and I hate that.
anyways Shock settings will help. tuning and dialing in understeer or oversteer is something they can help with.
for oversteer rear higher then front... for more understeer front higher then rear.
NOTE:
This doesn't mean that by setting the rears higher then the front setting you'll swing the back end around all the time. what it does mean is that if you had X amount of understeer before then you'll have moved closer to oversteer and so therefore reduced understeer and moved the car towards more neutral handling
