best intake for 99 si
hey i have a 99 si and i currently have a no one CAI with aractive filter on it. would i be noticing any difference in sound and pull with a AEM short ram or cai? or would it basically just be the same?
|
it will be the same.. get a k&n filter if that one u have is dirty.. a tube is a tube
|
i have both AEM short ram, and aem cold air.i use CAI in summer and it pulls good after 4-4.5 rpm good for hi revs, and short ram for winter, which is good for low rev it reacts good when you step on the gas.
and yes you will feel some diffrence for sure. PS: i have K&N on both intakes. i have D16Y8 motor same as yours. |
in terms of SRI and CAI design, there will be some affect on the high and low-end rpm power...
but for brand wise, no i don't think it does... again like someone mentioned above, a tube is a tube, as long as the material of the tube can keep the air cold inside the tube and travels freely enough, that's good enough... its all the air filter design that affects more i believe... a good air filter will allow more clean air in... but a crappy or ricey one will just have looks but doesn't do good... |
i thought he is only asking about AEM in perticular, but yea filter makes a big diffrence for sure. i drive around for 30 mins and so on, and pipe is still cold. and yes it sounds good, but short ram sounds more agressive then cai.
|
no you won't feel anything.
You will think you do, but really you dont. |
I find that SRI are so loud.. since its closer to you then a CAI would be.. thats what i think and plus i love the sound of my CAI when i turn off and on the car.. you hear that um.. air sucking noise.. lol

So... 130 hp + 15 hp for exhaust + 15 hp for intake + 15 hp for headers + 15 hp for test pipe im pushing 190 whp!!! :shrugs: :richslap: |
wTF! LMAO!

dont bother wasting money on buying "the best air intake" for a d series motor if you dont plan on building it up.
bolt on's for the d series give crappy results and definately not worth the money spent. |
the only thing worth putting on a d series is boost.

AEm intake are all dyno tested and they wont make a short ram or cold air unless it makes power.

I dont think any intake is really worth the $300+, I do it cuz it sounds cool and I can say that I have a CAI in my car.. other then that.. the only time I really "feel" the difference alot is when im VTECing and im all like paying alot of attention to the sound of it.. so I pretty much make myself seem like im goin way faster HAHA, but hell.. it sounds SWEEEEEEEEEET!

pipe is not just a pipe, thats what most ppl think "pipe is just a pipe". cheap ebay 30 dollar intakes are ****y material pipe.
metal is not that good, and its not smooth etc. hence they get hot etc and air flow is not smooth. my buddy have no name 70 dollar short ram with K&N filter, thing gets hot/warm after 5 mins of driving. and i have AEM short ram with K&N filter and drove for 20 mins to option JDM and touch my intake and thing was fairly cold. but i think regardless AEM or no name you wont get much gain for sure. so 300 bucks for a good intake or 8o bucks for a no name intake with virtually no gain at all, same some money and just buy no name intake with good filter. |
