Best Exhaust?

i want to change the exhaust on my car..... but dont want to spend a fortune...

i dont plan on turbo the car......possibly supercharge a year or 2 down the road...... what i was wondering is, what exhaust would you guys reccomend that would give the best performance for a relatively cheap price? ( under $450 )

i dont want something obnoxously loud, but dont want something quiet........ i want to be able to hear my car...............but not on the other side of town

what should i open the pipes up to?

thanks in advance

my car is a 90 crx si

Why don't you look for a slightly used Greddy or 5Zigen or something? If you must have new, the only option at that price is universal with custom pipes. Universal...I like...none of them, but you can get a 5Zigen original universal, or something...get a shop to hook it up. I wouldn't go bigger than 2.25 on your exhaust, but even that's too big IMO for a normally aspirated SOHC 1.6L

nice and deep, and not annoyingly loud... 100% stainless too i believe.. i think they go for around $500-600 tho... for under $450, i dno wut would be for you, prolly just an axle-back if your only after the sound.

DC Sports or GReddy... those were the only two I considered going with when I purchased mine. I settled on the DC but I personally think either exhaust is top-notch.

Ya dude, I would not even consider anything bigger than 2" cause of the lack of backpressure in a N/A application. However, I have one other suggestion. Why not get the SiR major components, like cat and muffler, then get custom piping bent into place to fit it all together. Like stock piping, good for 160hp N/A, and Honda quality. I would take that route if I wasn't going turbo. I love Honda parts. Plus, you can get those parts real cheap from forums where ppl are upgrading, and the custom fitment should not be too bad. Ok, good luck...

I think he forgot to mention that his car has a b16 engine, not the stock 90 crx si.

A resonator absorbs exhaust pulses, and dampens sound. Alot of new cars don't even have mufflers. They use just resonators. It's all I have. 2" pipe with a resonator under the shifter. Straight pipe after. I had a Lightspeed exhaust, but the weld at the muffler broke, so I put in a piece of straight pipe. Now, without the muffler, my car is quieter inside, and stills sound the same outside.

my friend has a civic with just the magnaflow muffler..and noo resonator!!! IT SOUNDS SOOOOOO DIRTY!!!! lol.....like its farting or something......EWWWWW!!!!!! RESONATOR FOR SURE trust me on this one!!!!!!!!! if u ever hear his exhaust u will LAUGH 4 sure!!!!! LOL....

hey if u have a b16a in there....u would wanna go with some bigger piping from the catolyic convertor back.....basically a cat back system. if u dont, u'll end up like me....having holes in ur exhaust piping cuz of the excess amount of fumes. besides...ur restricting ur power too with stock exhaust. u will feel a difference if u go with a cat back!!!!

like u mentioned....2 1/2" piping is good

I have a magnaflow custom cat back, and yes i totally agree with bbarbulo don't go bigger than 2" you lose a TON of low end cuz of the loss of backpressure... i'm planning on going turbo B18 eventually so i went bigger but it's a little **** off right now, also make sure you get a resonator or keep the one you have, i got it removed hopeing it would make it louder but it only makes the bumblebee noise when I stomp on the pedal and the engines still warming up and in the higher ranges of VTEC, something that I really regret..... but you can't go wrong with magnaflow, if you want i know a shop where i got my muffler done and a few other people from this club have pm me and i'll give you their address and number you can go there for a quote too..... good work and all custom

One thing to also remember is that if you have to much backpressure you will lose low end torque to, i have an intake, header, no cat, and 2.25 inch piping all the way to a stock exaust and i lose an amazing amount of low end power, but it is made up in high end. my point is just make sure you get exactly what the engine needs, not to much and not to little backpressure.

yeah they're good guys, and the price sounds reasonable, if you want to wait lets see about a gb or whatever, but if not that's pretty decent, make sure you get a resonator tho!!!! trust me you'll regret it later! 2 1/4" ... hmm yeah that sounds ok don't go any bigger, you really do feel it, but the high end is so beautiful, you can almost feel the vtec pull you away, and this is still with SOHC, i can't wait till DOHC, it'll be a beautiful thing! then turbo it up.....
