battery always dead
hi...this is my first winter with the car...
for the past 4 days....my car wouldn't start...
it only doesn't start in the mornings...
after school or work...the car starts fine...
is there a problem with the battery?
is my alarm draining the battery?
or is my battery too weak for the winter?
the cold cranking amp is only 405
someone told me that i at least need a 500 if i have a stereo...
is that true?
some one help...

Well.. with the colder temperature it makes it difficult for the cars to start.. Forget winter weather... Just cooler temps makes it very hard for my race car to start (I park it outside of the shop during the day, and have to bring it back in at night). I know we're not talking about race cars, dailiy drivers... So.. with that being said... The colder air brings denser air... So.. it takes a bit more for an engine to actually get the right mixture to fire up. That's a more complicated/technical view...
A more simpler reason would be the battery and the oil viscosity. That's why people recommend using 5w30 oil for the winter time... It's a little thinner and makes it easier for the engine to build up oil pressure.
Also.. you might want to get your alternator checked out to see if it's actually charging properly.
I suggest you get the car checked out.

ok...i took it to walmart to get the battery checked...
the machine said the battery is OK
but when i was removing the battery today...
i spilled a lot....i mean ALOT of liquid on my hands...
but lucky me...it wasn't concentrated sulphuric acid...
it was probably diluted sulphuric acid...
i think that the liquid got frozen overnight and prevented current flow in the mornings....
i changed the battery anyways...
it should be fine tomoro...
i'll let you guys know...
thanks for the support..

It's the battery...they lose their ability to hold charge, so even if your alternator is good, the battery won't hold the charge. But if the new battery won't hold either, then you probably have something that stays on all night and drains a lot of power? Also, get a volt gauge from Walmart for like $10, and install it temp. into your engine comprartment, and the voltage should be around 14.4 with the engine running.

the problem is fixed....it was the battery...
yesterday when i lifted the battery up....some find of liquid spilled all over my hand...
but it didn't burn that much...
i don't know why...
i cleaned it off right away...
i think it was diluted sulphuric acid...
so maybe the leak caused the liquid to freeze up over night and stop current flow...
but my car is fine now...
thanks for you help
