I just came back from the mechanic and he said that I need two new front upper control arms. I asked him if I could just buy the ball joints and not the whole control arm and he said no. Is he trying to make me spend more than I have to? I don't think that you have to replace the whole arm....

It all depends on what's happening that you went to see him in the first place.

on my civic my upper balljoint was shot so i replaced the whole arm i couldnt find any balljoints for it.even my brother friend said it was the whole arm i needed.and he my mechanic whenever i get lazy lol

I have experience with this...the control arm and upper ball joint are sold as one part from Honda

My upper control arm was shot too because it had play. It is 1 piece thing. They are around $80-$100 brand new each per side.

ya pos honda made it one peice....aftermarket usa built has a pressable ball joint..I paid 120 I think

upper control arm always comes with a upper ball joint they never come seperate thats the way Honda made it so that you have to spend more. the mechanic is not ripping u off

Yes you need to change the whole UCA
it's easy to replace than the lower one but cost bit more, they are around 80 bucks new.

actually, 'round here most places wanted $220 per side.

I got these TRW peices from Canadian Tire on sale for $207 for the pair.

honda wanted 130 per side.... i was gonna put new ones on .. when i got my new camber kit.. with the adjustable balljoint. .but then i remember it was replaced not long ago.. bout four years ago.. so they only had like 30 000km on it they were mint when i took them out. but it is somehting you should change.. but if your gonna lower your car why not go tthe kit from the group buy from OMNI

Ok, well i saw on the internet that you could buy just the ball joint, and not the whole arm. But yes, I am going to get a second opinion....by the way nice part psi_envy. those install pics help out too bbarbulo.

you can just buy the new upper ball jonit but ive heard they are supposed to come wiht the control arm..when i bought my for my ef...it came wiht it and the multiple ones ithas come wiht in the past comes wiht one...so hes making sure ur safe

U can buy just the ball joint, but the ball joint is like pressed in, is going to be hard to come out. So most of the people just buy the whole control arm and i agree with that. Just buy the whole control arm.
