bad suspension problems
 

i got 190k on my 98 1.6EL, lowered with H&R sports(type R application), and stock shocks.

been runnin this set-up for 1.5 yrs, without any issues...for the past 4months its been allover the road, meaning whenever its windy the car starts pushing with the wind, or on uneven surfaces the car will track with the road and it becomes hard to steer.

I think the issue is my shocks, or maybe a cracked spring.. im about to ordering some AGX's...
is there anything else it could be?...

Check your ball jonts and tire rod ends for wear/play then proceed with the following:

1) Check for broken springs/leaking shocks
2) Assess tire condition, check and adjust air pressure(especially in the colder weather)
3) Check all your suspension bushings for cracks or failure.

With 190K on stock shocks with lowering springs I wouldn't hesitate to point in that direction if everything else checks out ok.

I'm with track hack, the stock shocks likely blown, did you try testing them out by pushing down on each end and seeing how many bounces it takes to settle? Also as far as your car steering with the road on uneven surfaces, if you are using wider tires.. say 205's then they tend to steer you in the direction of the road since they have a larger surface area.

tirehack covered most of the points. and moe-mentums got it too.

I run on 205's during the summer and they alwayz pull towards the groove of the road. Its annoynig specially when Im going really fast..

I was told that it happens when your car is lowered that the wind gets caught under and flat tires make it once...n it was pretty true..I raised the car right up to stock and put on steelies for winter and I can turn whatever way at whatever speed and its no problem. Do you hear any sounds when you go over bumps? like squeaking or clicking?

when is the last time you had an alignment? i wouldn't rule it out.

i had an alignment in May/05...i am runnin on 205/50's so that probably explains the tracking.

i hear alot of noises over bumps, mostly creaking from the rear passenger, and a lite thumping from the front passenger...i know my upper ball-joint on the front passenger needs to be replaced, so ill take care of that when i get the new shocks.

i havent noticed any oil leaks from the shock either, and some of the bushings are cracking but my mechanic told not to worry about those yet.
