bad pully or A/C compressor??

when i start my car I hear a squealing.rattling sound... It seem like it was coming from the A/C compressor/pulley part. I look under my hood with my engine running and I could see that the pulley that is attached to the A/C compressor doesn't spin straight, it wobbbles a little bit, hence creating a rattling/squealing sound. When i drive on the highway and step on the gas i can also hear a slight squealing/rattling sound, like something that's spinning is loose.

Is this a bad pulley or bad A/C compressor bearing or the compressor itself??? my A/C works fine by the way so I'm leaning more towards the pulley taht's bad. anyone have any insight???

Well, if you think it is the belt go to crappy tire and spend $3 on a can of "Belt Dressing". It is basically a spray can of belt conditioner that will stop the squeeling. If the belt is cracked or cooked you may want to replace it but if it is still in okay condition, just give it a spray of that stuff and your whine will go away.

upon further inspection the squealing sounds like its coming from the a/c compressor.... replacement perhaps??

did you ever have the fluid/lubricant serviced.... leave it till it dies, or have the system flushed and refilled... does it do it with A/C engaged only, or all the time... if all the time, then pulley.

happens all the time and the A/C doesn't have to be on...just squealing around that area... i hear it while driving too when I accelerate the squealing is more then it goes awaybut happens everytime i step on the gas...more noticeable on the highway.....cause city driving is too loud although i still hear it... will pulley cause this or hte compressor??

Did you replace your belt? Start by doing that first... get a new belt... see if that helps. Post reply after changing belt.

How much "play" is there in the belt? I bet that's what the prob is.

the pulley/belt that's right beside the power steering container is the one that's doesn't look like it's spinning strong nor straight. I looks like its spinning slower than the belt that's connected to the alternator. maybe it's suppose to be this way?? don't know...
but for sure when the AC is on, i can hear when driving that the belt/pulley is not "tight" it sounds like it's ratlling or something...

it may be a long shot, but my dad had the same problem and he also thought it was the a/c and it turned out to be the harmonic balancer. I may be wrong though.
