Bad Gas Mileage...

My g/f has a 97 Civic Si. She had a major tune up at 105,000.00 KM Now its 112,000.00 KM. New fuel filters, new water pump, new belts, all new fluids, new rotors and brand new brake pads. All the parts are OEM Honda, service performed at the dealer. In the summer she only gets about 350 KM a tank. Now in the winter she’s getting about 280 KM per tank. She’s using 89 Octane.

She doesn't drive hard at all and follows the speed limit. What could be the cause of this?

You insight on this matter would be appreciated.

Thanks,

wrong tire pressure?

it's normal to have lower mileage in winter cuz it's cold. 350 is about average for city driving.... there is no problem.

Nope... Tire pressure is not the problem. Still I think this is low km's. Are you sure about this one? I would imagine she should be getting over 450 km's.

Even if I drive hard, I would still get 450.

Does she drive automatic?

how about plugs, and wires... I get more than 300 with 4 snowboards strapped to the roof, and 3 passengers in a heavy headwind (last months board trip to quebec)

I think 280 is pretty bad.

could try some slick 50 fuel injector cleaner (gave me 150 k extra on a tank) , then take the car out for a good WOT rip... blow some deposits out of the compustion chamber... I bet the car has idled allot and granny footed everywhere... Could try switching to a K&N filter replacement...

Check the air filter

Other than that, Im getting about 400 without pushing the tank all the way to empty.

just a tip... perhaps you can teach your girl to drive better

like... looking NOT at the bumper of the car ahead, but rather looking 2-3 blocks ahead and anticipating traffic. teach her to coast, or LIGHT throttle application. tell her it's not like a TV (either ON or OFF) ... nooo the car has input that looks like a sine wave, with varying intensity.

I wouldn't brag about having parts you don't know how to use
