ok see the point about asking prices in the forums... you get one gentleman saying 3000 and another saying 1000 .....
seriously if your working out a price call shops and ask... I don't mean to be rude I'm trying to be realistic. Shops will give you the current going prices.
Asking JSK and you'll get what hepaid for it ... which may or may not be the current asking price to get the job done. I also know what that price was and I know he got a deal on it....
seriously call places and ask. that way you get the current prices. if you ask for prices on here you'll see numbers thrown at you from 1000 to 5 grand ..... thats a wide range. ask them where they got their quote froma nd most will probably say on TCC of course, what this results in is a game of broken telephone you get prices that have been handed down as quotes from person to person meanwhile the shops prices have changed.
if you call 20 different shops and get the price for the complete swap then you will have the best price comparasion to go with. remember if you want it done right do this. if you askon here you'll get prices of 1 grand to 5 grand... if all shops are quoting 4 to 5 grand to do the work and you say to them well a friend told me I can get it for a grand. the shop will do 1 of 2 things:
1) say ok go to your friends shop and hang up the phone
2) say ok we can do it for that price and when they do it they do a half assed job so that you have to go back to have it fixed and end up spending 4 to 5 grand.
to get a good job done you have to build a relationship of respect with the mechanics. and the worst way to start out is "well my friend said I can get it for such and such a price"
I hope this helps... now if you call 20 shops and post the quotes you got we'd be glad to help you decide....

Call Altech, and that's the only shop I think worth calling. I know you live far, but that's the sacrifice you have to make on your end.
Their number is on the affiliates' page. Add a 10% to their quoted price just incase something went wrong (at least that's what I would do).
Engine swap (done by a shop) is something you cannot afford to get fucked over with. You want to get it done right the first time and that's that. There are a lot of stories on TCC where guy get his car to a shop and never saw day light for a month and then forced to tow the car to Altech and spend another grand or two to get it done properly. It is sad.
Engine may cost some money, but quality work charges more.
