B20 vtec swap help needed

Hey,

I have a friend who is attempting the b20 vtec swap into his 95 si coupe. Just wondering if anyone knows which components he will need to complete the swap? He already has a complete b20 engine that he has removed the head from.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Install it like you would any other B series VTEC. If the head is off a B16, then follow B16 installation procedures. If you have a problem doing it, I recommend you do what you can, then tow it to Altech and have them finish it. It'll save you some money. BTW, a B20 VTEC has to be BUILT, not just put together. If your friend is considering just putting the head on it, I think he's highly mistaken... prolly should have Leitner do the machining work on it, destroke it and match up the head and block correctly. I'm not 100% sure on what's involved, but this isn't a cheap build. If he doesn't have cash to have Leitner build it, then simply use LS manifold and ECU and tranny just to make it all work, and save money for a real buildup later on.

bbarbulo is correct. You can't just take a b16 head and slap it onto a B20 block and off you go. There's more involved in just replacing the head. This isn't a cheap job, so only do it if your friend has the money to cover the costs. With all the parts and accesories involved in the build up, you're looking into the 5 digit price range.
If your friend isn't too familiar with building one, then I suggest he take it to a shop that has done the conversion, otherwise he's gonna be running into a lot of headaches and end up spending more money. If he's gonna do it, do it right the first time. My brother got his built by Ultamte Racing and is problem free.

ok so you have to have the head machined so the dowel pins match up then get the oil jet passage pluged....then your head is built to rev to 8500 no problem but your bottom end can't handle anythign mroe than 77-7800 rpm's....and yoru comrpession ratio is gogin to be low to...my suggestion is to swap the motor in with a gsr tranny then save up to get the head done then get soem itr pistons shot peen the rods get teh block "studded" and a crank girdle put in so then you wont' be afraid of revign it up to 8-8300 rpm's...either way it's expensive and nto worth it because your reliability is gonna be **** and trust me you will blow that b20 bottom end because your buddy with probobly be reving it up high with no tungin done to it blah blah blah...kaboom....just swap int eh b20 get it runnign right then save up later for the build up or jsut put that money into turboing it....
