B20/vtec

Sorry if this is has been covered many times

Im just curious as to the Pros and Cons of the setup.

And just interested in what is actualy used.

I know what block
But like what head? B16? b18?
And what transmission... GSR?
Anything else you'd need?
Linkages and whatnot?

Time is coming for a swap
Yes im sadly still running the little SOHC
So im just lookin at some ideas

Im not looking for insane setups
Im not plannin on boosting.
I just want something that'll be fun to drive and take out for some runs every weekend.

And for the record
It'll be going in a EG hatch

those are very basic questions..

if you are sorry that the topic has been covered many times, why not just search it?

i'd go with a b16 head because the compression, cfm, quench differences for the extra money a gsr head will cost is not really worth it imo.

Tranny.. well that depends what you want, daily driver, gsr is a good choice, for a weekend tracked, b18c5, or if your cheap b16a2

I love C5 tranny for daily driving. If you do a lot of hwy driving you might not like it. 5th gear going 120km/h your reving at around 4300/4400 rpm.

Me personally I agree with Chris_si98 on the b16 head. Easier to source, and better gains IMO. Same casting as the Type R head, just uses less aggressive cams, valvesprings and valves. For the price you can pick up a b16 head for, you could buy a nice aftermarket valvetrain (Ferrea, crower etc..) and say CTR cams, or even after market (Buddy club, Rocket, Skunk2 etc..) and have a better head than a Type r.

My rules for b20 vtec: b20z or b20b bottem end

b16 head
310cc or larger injectors
ARP headstuds (GSR)
ARP Rodbolts (LS/b20)
RS Machines Pistons 84.5mm(might as well do them as the pistons/rods are out for machining to accept the larger rod bolts)
Golden Eagle Ls/b20 Vtec Kit
Type R/GSR Oil pump
Type R/GSR Waterpump
Type R/GSR timing Belt
OEM Honda bearings

Pay the money and get it professional put together.

TUNE TUNE TUNE!! $3-400 on a properly tuned healthy running motor is priceless!

A set up with that you can expect to see #'s over the 200whp range, even with a dc sports header.!!!

my 0.2 cents!

Please search as this topic has been truly covered many times, all the possible head matching (P3R, P72), internals, bolt ons and whatnot.

Thanks
