b20 in a eg coupe???

ok guys ..i have my eyes on this eg with no motor or tranny.....and i was told my best bet and buck for buck would b 2 install a b20. non vtec of course....the guy said the engine bay is STRIPPPPEDDDD nothing in there not even battery..

now the question....would this b a good idea...he told me about 450 for a b20..no tranny and use a b18 tranny....

how much would it b..and does this make anysense., and i only have 1000 2 pay for everytihng including rad, tranny ,axel, etc

can u give me a price quote and ca cheap place 2 install...sorry for the long post

chris_si98 06-Aug-2006 11:23 PM

there is no way you can get everything you need for 1000$.

i'm doing a b20 into an EK and it's costing me close to 2500$.. but thats with a few extra goodies and a s80 LSD tranny.

If you are on a budget ls tranny is the way to go.. but since its a long geared tranny it won't be that fun to drive when compared to an a2, c1 or c5 tranny.

The tranny and engine alone will probably cost you close to 1000$.. plus mounts, harness, rad, hoses, axles, halfshaft, linkage, battery, all the bolts, install. You would be paying between 1500-2000$ in parts alone (my estimate).

Install could run you another 500-1000$

1000 for a install? Is Jesus Christ himself doing this swap?

chris_si98 07-Aug-2006 12:09 AM

thats what the professionals charge. And since he said the bay is empty I assume you have to install the master cylinder.. clutch resevoir. All that junk adds up.

Ie Defcon, theres others like scott newman who also do excellent work but for a fraction of the price.

If u only have a 1000, dont even bother.

imported_Zyepher 07-Aug-2006 12:46 AM

It's possible to do it for 1500 with the right hook ups and can do the work yourself.

0o_coupe 07-Aug-2006 11:39 AM

If i were you i would save up more money than you need just incase you run into problems after the swap like replacing belts, weak altenator ect. i know i did.

imported_White_Sleeper 07-Aug-2006 12:43 PM

i have a few buddies that said tehy would install it for 300...2 diff guys said it...so install is no worries...and ya ...they bay is empty so i would have 2 buy those lil parts 2.....

so how bout u send me those hooks up....lol and help a bortha out...i'm sick of my jdm d15...i need more balls

hows the proframnce on the b20...and in a eg...thats also wat i was asking...

would i b able 2 use a b16 tranny if the ls sux?

imported_mikepasini 07-Aug-2006 12:48 PM

yeah, but you are looking at around $600 or so for one in decent shape... you van find some between $400 - $600, but it might be questionable condition.

imported_White_Sleeper 07-Aug-2006 12:54 PM

i can put in the extra 2-400...this build isn't gonna b done in 1 day...its gonna b parked for a whilee..so i can wait...

or would b b better off goin with a b16 swap?

every1 has them though....

wats the benfits of b20 in a civic?? pros and conns plz

chris_si98 07-Aug-2006 01:08 PM

the pros are that it'll be a fun torquey drive around town and that it won't cost you that much to swap. You also have lots of room to improve (b20vtec, boost, etc)

cons are that they fall flat on their face when you rev high.. i also heard that the b20b/z IM don't flow that well when compared to other b-series (im sure zeeman will clarify that)

In the end a b16 swap and a b20 swap with a b16 tranny will probably cost more or less the same (give or take a few 100$) Personally.. i'm doing my b20 swap so that I can have fun around town and that I don't have to revv high to get some power.

imported_mikepasini 07-Aug-2006 01:09 PM

torque my friend... plus, you can throw it in there for now, then build a b20/vtec when you get more money... i would go that route...

if you thought your other motor was gutless, then a b16 is much more really... but depends on how high you want to rev as well... b20s don't rev very high and make some nice torque down low... having a short geared tranny like a b16 would be loads of fun IMO... but you won't be able to go very fast... at like 120 you will be a 4000+ rpm roughly... i think those things only go to like 6200rpm-6500 or something.

imported_White_Sleeper 07-Aug-2006 01:13 PM

hmm so the swap is worth it?

and i know its not a high rever....i will miss it...i'm used 2 the very high revin jdm d15...

but if i can get all my power b4 redline...no need 2 go 2 red line correct?

wat would b more fun 2 drive the b16 and or the b20...

ZEEMANNN i need ur help bro

what you want is torque

torque=b20

imported_White_Sleeper 07-Aug-2006 01:23 PM

so how come every1 doesn' t go with the b20's?

i hear alot of ppl saying they want more trq. so wouldn't this b the ez way of doin it?

chris_si98 07-Aug-2006 01:31 PM

there are a lot of mis-conceptions about b20's. ie weak sleeves. People usually have to piece their b20 swaps together since a full b20 swap wouldn't fit in our chassis. B20's aren't the most common motor either. Also.. in order to get real power you have to do a frankenstein.. i guess some people believe that frank.'s are un-reliable, which is un-true. All of those reasons are enough for some people so they just grab a b16a2 swap for 2000$.

But personally.. i see more people swapping LS and b20's now then I do b16's.
