b20 difference

If im doing a b20 vtec, should i get a

1) USDM older 96 crv b20
2) JDM any year b20
3) 99-00 USDM b20 Z

also, whats teh diffrence in blocks between a b20z and a jdm b20 ....

zeeman 25-Jul-2006 10:46 AM

get a b20z....it has the phk pistons (higher compression)
The only difference between the two is the pistons....the b20b is like 8.8:1 CR and the b20z is 9.6:1 CR (or around there).

Nova_Dust 25-Jul-2006 11:41 AM

Like Andrew said, you could go with B20z block. The CR goes from 8.8, to 9.2, to 9.6.

But if you are going to rebuild the entire long block, then the pistons don't matter much.

imported_SaYjAiBaO 25-Jul-2006 03:14 PM

and there's a few b20s that only came in certain cars that has a P8R head in jdm land. this head has intake valves the same size as the vtec heads but it's very rare. i don't know how much of a difference it makes but just letting you know.

Nova_Dust 25-Jul-2006 03:35 PM

Apparently, according to Honda, there are 6 types of B20 engines.

The B20 (87-91) from the prelude is not to be comfused with the newer B20. They are a different family of engines and are not compatable whatsoever.

if your going b20 non vtec then the b20z would be the way to go. has 147hp as apposed to the 133 of the b20b. im pretty sure those are the right #s...
