B18C5 swap.

I am looking into buying a Type R engine.

I have been looking for info on the engine and the swap for the last couple of days but haven't been able to find much.
And the stuff I have found is different then some of the other things I have found.

I just a have a few questions about the engine and the swap.

1 is exactly how much hp these put out.
This is a 99 B18C5 from an ITR.
I have read from 195hp to 210hp.
I don't know if the USDM or the JDM engines put out different power.
But am assuming if they do then the one with 210hp is the JDM?

Also about the swap.
Exactly how hard is this swap.
I am still really new to Hondas and am trying to leanr as much as I can.

My car is a 94 Si Coupe.
So I believe it is a OBD1 car?
If thats right.

And the engine is an OBD2.
I read on a site that you need to do a wiring conversion for this.
I was just wondering how hard this is and how much work actually would need to go into it.

I will not be installing this myself by the way.
I am also wondering if anyone knows a good place in the GTA to get this installed for fairly cheap.
Somewhere with good experience.

Other then that I just would like to know what else I would need for the swap.
What axles, or motor mounts.

The engine is currently in a 93 Civic hatch.
And I am not sure if it would be coming with the mounts or axles.

Any help on this would be great.

Thanks.

No one has any input/advice/thoughts/opinions about this?

imported_b16turbohatch 30-Jan-2005 09:35 PM

if the motor and tranny comes with axles and mounts then u r fine, will just drop right in. however u can use a 94 or so gsr rear mount if it does not come with mounts. yes your car is obd-1 and a 99 type-r is obd-2, i know skunk 2 sells a conversion harness for just the ecu. not %100 sure about the motor wiring. lastly i do believe the jdm type-r's are around 200hp or so. in my opinion try your best to get the shafts and mounts to make it easier.

Thanks a lot man.
I am going to look at the engine sometime this week and have someone check it over.

I do believe I will be able to get the mounts and axles because I don't think the guy will need them anymore after it is out of the car.

Thanks a lot.

Anymore input would be much appreciated.

well since you said that you would have a shop do the install i won't go into great detail, but you would either need an obd1-obd2 conversion harness to run the obd2 ecu, or to get your p28 chipped to run the ITR program and eliminate a secondary o2 sensor since your car only has 1.
You would need 94-01 integra axels and intermediate shaft, unless provided with the swap.
Good choice on the engine by the way, that'll rock your coupe

Thanks man.
Always nice to know I made a good choice.

So Skunk2 Makes the conversion harness?

zeeman 31-Jan-2005 11:52 AM

don't buy a skunk 2 conversion harness, its probably really expensive. You can get a conversion harness for like $80 US from honda-tech.

bbarbulo 31-Jan-2005 11:53 AM

My buddy said you can get them for $60 USD now

imported_Spiderman 31-Jan-2005 12:12 PM

Nice.

So is 3500$$ for the complete engine/tranny a good price?

SiR_88crx 31-Jan-2005 12:22 PM

ya

imported_kIeRaN 31-Jan-2005 01:25 PM

yeah, thats a great price for a b18c5, make sure to get a compression and leak down test

imported_Spiderman 31-Jan-2005 01:35 PM

Yah I am going to take a look at it this week.
And hopefully hear it run etc.
And for sure get the compression and leakdown test done.

imported_91SiRacer 31-Jan-2005 03:40 PM

For $3500 I'd say go for it.That's an amazing price.

imported_Spiderman 31-Jan-2005 05:10 PM

Alright.
i just found out that the mounts and axles are not coming with the engine.

But everything else is.
The engine/tranny/ecu/wiring harness etc.

So what axles do I use?
Can I use the ones I have...or do I need to purchase new axles?
And where can I get them if I need to.

And for the mounts.
Do I need a mount kit...or can I use whats in the car already?
And if I need to buy a kit where can I get one from.

Also.
There is a ZC motor in the car right now.
I don't know if that will change what kind of mounts or axles would work or not.

Any help is great.
Thanks.

imported_b16turbohatch 31-Jan-2005 05:28 PM

is it a single cam zc? and correct me if i'm wrong but all the mounts should be ok except for the rear mount. for that u will need a 94 or so integra gsr rear mount. as for axles u will need new axles but im not sure where u can get cheap axles maybe someone can direct him that way.and ask if he is giving u the intermediate shaft or not might save u money.

imported_Spiderman 31-Jan-2005 05:34 PM

The ZC is a DOHC

I'll ask him whenever I get to meet up and check out the engine.

Where could I get a GSR rear mount from?

imported_Spiderman 02-Feb-2005 08:19 PM

So does no one know what axles I will need for this swap?

zeeman 02-Feb-2005 10:23 PM

you will need axels and intermediate shaft from a 94-01 integra (engine modle doesn't matter)
Also, you need the rear engine mount from a 94-01 integra any model not just specifically the gsr.
Check this out, scroll down a bit and look at the picture:
