B18C1 or B16?
hey i ned some advice, i want to do a swap into an EK hatch..i'm not intrested in turbo, jus want a bit more of a kick..the B18C1 engine is like 1000 dollars cheeper than the b16 so that why i'm leening kinda towards the B18 side a bit, but if its worth it i can save a lil more for the b16
thx for the help

b18b (ls) is cheaper than a b16, but b18c1 (gsr) costs more than a b16.
I would go with a b18c1 (gsr).
But if its between the b16 and b18b i think that i would go with the b18b then later on add a b16 head/pistons.

B16's are slow unless your car is really light or its Nicely Modded.
B16's in EF's are decently quick. But in anything heavier the Extra displacement and Torque of a bigger engine will really help. just go with the easiest swap electrical wise.

oh my bad..i was looking @ the B16 B..the type r motor..so i'm assuming that every1 is tlkain about the B16A
maybe if i state what i'm looking for sum1 can tell me what kinda of motor would be good for me
first off price is a factor, and i dont race
i need a car that can respectfully acelerate to 100, when i had my auto EK hatch..it was hell trying to get up there on the highway..and i usually drive around 120-130 on the highway so i need it to reach those speeds in a reasonable time..not nessesarily right away...but if i need to pass sum1 it should take a million years
my new hatch will be manual tranny..as i hear it works better with V-tec
with that being said which engine do u guys think is right for me?
thx

i couldn't justify spending $5000+ on swap parts alone for a torqueless CTR engine. B16a's are good b/c they are cheap, peppy and you can easily source one.
It sounds to me like a b16a would suit your needs just fine. But if you can afford it i would suggest the b18c1 its got more torque than the b16a and b16b.
If money was an issue i would suggest a b18b or b20z w/b16 tranny maybe a GSR tranny if you do a lot of highway driving, both obd2, both are a easy, drop in engines for your EK and the torque of the b18b will satisfy your need for speed and the b20z would put a big smile on your face....IMO displacement owns. Plus there is always the option of adding a vtec head later on down the road

If you just want acceleration, within a reasonable time, all you need is a D16Y8 transmission with a 4.7/4.7 final drive, 8 lb fly wheel and you are good to go.
Yes you sacrifice the gear ratio but with ITR or CTR engine, they both have short FD so you aren't doing too well there either. B16A tranny is short as well.
And you said it yourself, price is a factor, and B16B will burn a hole in your pocket.
One of the major reason why a D16 feels so damn slow is its transmission, and people generally overlook on that part. Majority of the people blame it all on the engine block when there are other factors to be looked into.
Anyway, you probably won't look into other alternatives other than swap. In that case, drop in a B18C1.
