B18c/c5head question..where to go?
Just curious on some of your opinions out there. Currently have a 96Ek Hatch with a GSR/TypeR motor (GSR Block, TypeR Head)
The motor is fully built , ported & polished. CTR Cams, TypeR Crank, etc... anyways Im wondering... should i stay all motor and drive this motor into the ground... then get a b20 build it (Bottem end) and turbo that... Or should i boost this baby Turbo/Supercharger either way.. what would you reccomend? :shrugs: |
Think about it: If it was built right, it's gonna take a loooong time to drive it into the ground. So you'll be waiting a long time for that B20 to be in your car.
How was the the motor built anyway? For boost or all motor? |
why would you put a type R crank in a gsr?
Depending on the compression of this engine i would either change the cams/valve train for something more agressive or turbo it. I'm guessing its going to be pretty high compression, so if you want to boost, don't go crazy, but boost will be fun. If you're looking for more power as it sits, get n20. But we really need more info to give suggestions for your setup. |

Did you use usdm or jdm p73 pistons?
Is the head milled or block decked at all? Whats the static compression ratio of this engine? If the heads not milled and your using the jdm itr slugs your static CR will be about 11.3:1, which is enough to run like stage 2 cams or so. It depends on where you want your powerband to be. If you're looking for a lot of midrange BC3+'s are really good and work well with relatively low compression. If you want something that makes power to like 9-9500rpms JUN 3's are good. Your setup would benefit from a better header and 2.5" exhaust and you might need some bigger injectors maybe 330's or so. You could also always mill the head some to get the compression up a bit to run even bigger cams. But then piston to valve clearance might become an issue. So basically, if you wanna stay n/a big cams/upgraded valve train and a really good header/exhaust are a must. You might also wanna get your throttle body bored out a bit. Don't forget sticky tires. |
USDM R pistons, compression ratio of the motor is 10:8:1
The head was dimond milled, as well the block dimond decked. |
i would of went with PR3, P30 pistons instead of milling/decking.. looking for more power, ditch those cams and find some todas, or even a sk2 pro1 series

Pro1 are sick, but the idle is not tuner friendly. BC4's are arguably the best cam out there

yea lets keep in mind this is an everyday driver too... its idling fine now little rough idles here and there (Very seldom) its mostly from hondatas little gliches.. so your suggestion is changing them pistons/cams before a turbo... or any forced induction?
