B18b1

Hello this is my first post and i was just wondering if the type r crank rods pistons are worth putting into my b18b1 dohc non-vtec block. I have been told that it really isn't worth the money to do that, but then i have also heard that it is well worth money with the hp and torque increase. I have no idea, who to belive if anyone can help me that would be great. Oh ya i am doing this swap in a 95 civic hatch i dont think that means too much though.
Thanx for any info you have or if you have any other set ups for me that would be great.

meh not worth it...just get a gsr tranny (which is key to a all motor car because the ls tranny sux balls)...then either spray it or boost or even just add cams like crowers these are better ideas to go for....or go for a b20 for more displacement and torque wiht a gsr tranny....or jsut do i/h/e then with the left over money get a gsr LSD tranny to go with the b18b...for the money you spend on parts and machining you could have a boosted b18b setup with WAY more power..

how much can a b18b b found for?.......also how much would it cost after full install into say a 89 civic si.....im thinking of doing this swap, ill need the tranny to right cuzz it wont bolt up to my stock si tranny?

you'd need a mount kit still but the motor itself is not hugely expensive....

and putting in the rods, crank etc from a type r is not really worth it.... unless you later plan on putting a type r head on it... or any b series dohc vtec head for that matter.... those type r compents are a lot stronger then the LS counterparts

i cant bolt a b18b up to my stock 89 si tranny can i?.......how much would a complete b18b swap cost me at a shop?

imported_spl_civic 19-Sep-2003 06:26 AM

no you can't use your si tranny with the b18b1 setup
and i think it's anywhere around $3000 - 4500 for a b18b swap

i think it would be a lot cheaper for you to do a b18a setup instead, in your 89 civic

wow that much for a b18b, i thought these were fairly cheap......how much would a b18a run me and whats the specs on one of those?

Ok thanx for the info guys. I like the cam idea and the boost idea but all turbo kits ive seen are just way outta my price range. The cheapest i have seen one was about 1500 us. I like the cam idea i thik that is the way to go. If you have any more ideas please let me know.
Cheers
