B18B Oil Pressure sensor thread type and size?

I'm putting in an oil pressure gauge and I'm having trouble figuring out what size and thread the stock oil pressure sensor is.

I don't want to leave my car stranded while I take the thing out and try to find a match.

I found out on a civic that its a M10 x 1.0 but I'm not sure if its the same for my integra motor (1995 B18B1).

This site http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/...c218_tegim.pdf (for an integra supercharger install) uses a 1/8" BSPT fitting to the existing sensor port. I know that even a 1/8" NPT will fit, but not perfectly. I want it perfect cause I dont want to risk stripping threads and messing things up.

I have a feeling that those damn Japanese engineers stick with metric and use a M10x1.0 too.

Even if integras and civics use the same sensor, I bet they are code-tagged and priced differently, so that we don't know!

Also, anyone out there find a cheaper place for the adapters? So far I can only find them for $14 each! For little adapters!!!

Even princess auto didn't have metric/imperial adapters! Shame.

Thanks.

Sorry man, this isn't really common knowledge... maybe donesixer will know, otherwise, try Leitner performance.

BTW, hydraulic fittings are different than bolts... I swear to you that I've never heard of an M10 hydraulic fitting... the standards are National Pipe Thread (NPT) and British Standard Pipe Thread (BSPT)... these are the same around the world. Cheap fittings can be found at www.mcmaster.com, first line, first heading... pipe and pipe fittings... choose whatever material floats your boat... But for the love of GOD, take out the oil sensor, get a buddy to drive you to Home Depot, and match the thread to something there...either in bolts or in pipe/plumbing. Cuz I don't know...could be something other than npt or bspt.

I'm learning!

Today I learnt that there is a diff between a BSPT (basicall a British metric) and the 10M x 1.0

The difference is slight, I think 1 extra thread per inch.

Even the Vortec Supercharger install manual recommends a BSPT fitting, but the place I went to: Hydraline, believe that the M (metric) fittings would be a best match, since most of the Japanese machinery uses threads of this type....

Even he admits that for the shallow depth of an oil pressure sensor, a BSPT with some teflon tape is good enough.

The NPT and BSPT fittings, like all tapered fittings, are apparently good at sealing because they cause a little destruction to the female threads as they come to "rest"....

Since some guy used a 10 m x 1.0 on the net in the states on these integra motors, I followed suit...just to be safe, so I dished out the cash and bought metric adaptors today. The parts I needed (t'ees and such) amounted to $25.

$12 alone for the 1/8" NPT to 10 M x 1.0 fitting!

To anyone else doing this, just call up Bosch in Alberta toll free and its cheaper $6, but you gotta pay for shipping and wait a week.

Home depot surely only carries NPT and not Metric, there isn't enough call for that.
Thanks for your help though

Dude, there's a 1/8" NPT to 1/8"BSPT fitting sold by Autometer.
Part #2269. Sorry I didn't read this earlier.

EDIT:..and actually they don't really distroy any thread, the thread actually becomes tighter as they go in. The thread isn't uniform from the beginning to the end. All it does is clamp down harder.

did it

Can't remember if i mentioned that it all worked out perfectly as planned, for once.

I bought the Brass T filling, compression fittings and Nylon hose at Home depot. These were all 1/8 NPT thread. Using the metric adapters I connected to the engine and also to the stock sensor for the idiot light.

Its all good now.
