B16A vs B16A2
hi i am new to this site and i already have a question :D
i understand that the b16a which i think is the jdm motors numbers are 168/116 as opose to the us 160/111? i know that the jdm ones are from 92-95 civics however i am looking to do a swap for my 96 hatchback so im wondering what everyone would suggest? i can get both motors for the same price so is it worth getting the jdm one does anyone know if it actually feels faster than the us engine? anything else i should keep in mind? thank you oh my budget is 3000 canadian |
well the reason the JDM b16a has more hp is because it has 10.4:1 compression ratio vs the USDM b16a2's 10.2:1 CR.
Well i would look for someone who is pulling the b16a2 out of their car b/c it will be obd2 and will have the right mounts, axles and shift linkages. It would aslo be beneficial to you to see the engine running in a car and do a compression test before you buy it. You can buy b16's for like $1500 now, just search the boards. So you should have no problem staying within your budget. I would also recommend changing at least the timing belt and water pump while the engine is out. It would also be a good time to change the clutch. |

and .2mm larger throttle body. Huh, the intake cams are different eh? Didn't know that.
Although visually the 2nd gen b16 intake manifold is much cleaner and more appealing it flows better than the 1st gen does? |
wow thats a new one to me too. i know the 1st & 2nd gen manifolds look different but i do believe that they are the same design. i would look into the cam thing because i dont think thats right but you never know.

L-2nd gen im is slightly different and flows a bit better.
Z-from what i've seen, all b16's have 60mm t/b's....including b16b. atleast the ones that i've owned (b16). the only b series t/b i've owned that is 58mm is the b18a/b. |
all b16's are 58mm except b16b is 60mm
