B16a--- MAP sensor question & vaccume hose setup?(Gallaghar's problem might be fixed)

I diagnosed Gallaghar's car yesturday, disconnected his vafc, pulled his error codes and I grabbed a code 3 (MAP sensor).

Are all b16a map sensors interchangable?

Also we encountered a weird problem with the intake manifold vaccume hoses. He took some pics but hasn't sent them yet so I'll try to describe.

On his car, he has a hose from the black cylinder thing (mounted below... on the firewall), to the intake manifold. Then another hose spliced with a T connection from the FPR to the map sensor, then to the intake manifold.

But... on my car.. I have a hose from the intake mani to the fuel pressure regulator. Then another hose from the intake mani to my Map sensor. And that black cylinder thing has a hose but it doesnt connect to anything, it's just dangling downward.

My car run fine, pulls very hard with no problems, but his car has stumbing idle and idles high yeilding him very bad gas mileage.

Also that black container I meantioned, it has 3 seperate vaccume hoses, 2 of which are connected to other parts in the engine.

I hope this all makes sense... we're trying to figure out why I have a hose dangling, and what the proper configuration is. We both have the same JDM B16a2 motorswap.

(Yet he has a wiring nightmare... HAPPY, who did his swap????)

Thanks

Maybe this pic will help with your discussion although i believe its for a A1 rather then A2. I had a hell of time with the vacuum conections on my A1.

^^^ it doesn't get any better than that Brett!!

there ya go. the bad idle can be due to the map sensor too, it doesn't HAVE to be vacuum.

the black hose you describe is the brake booster vacuum.

hook up a vacuum gauge to this motor and watch the needle. if you don't have one, come on Friday, I'll have a vacuum gauge with me.

the MAP sensor you can test by reading the voltage on the output. Most MAPs get 5V reference voltage, then reduce the voltage as mani vacuum drops. So when you open the t-body, the voltage back to the ECU should drop. Now, that's MOST MAPs, be sure to check the manual with regards to what the voltage should be. The MAP code can also be thrown with a vacuum leak severe enough, and the MAP may not be at fault at all.

...hmmm...

So the top vacuum on the charcoal canister should connect to my Brake Booster? From this diagram it looks as if it connects to the Map sensor.

Stupid vacuum hoses, thank god we don't own RX7's, you should see how many vacuum hoses there are in that friggin motor.
