Unhappy b16a Engine troubles

Hello. I've got a 4th generation civic and I just got a b16a swap. Trouble is, I get this weird problem. When I try to hold the throttle steady in order to get a constant speed, lets say at highway cruising speed (5th gear, 120km/h, 4000rpm), the engine kinda sputters, then accelerates. This also happens at 5th at 70km/h, though it isn't as noticeable. However, when I give it more gas, it accelerates quite readily.

The biggest problem is when I start the car with a cold engine (car is outside for more than 2 hours), the engine kinda sputters a couple of times, then starts and idles normally. This only happens when the engine is cold. Please help!

points of interest:

- did a tune partial tune up (cap/rotor/wires/plugs)
- fuel filter was not changed after the swap since it was changed 6-8 months ago. I'm pretty sure they did not change the fuel filter
- starter motor is fine
- cap/rotor from 88-91 integra
- plugs from 99-2000 sir
- sparco wires
- oil/oil filter was not changed. I figure they used new oil when they put the engine in.

Thanks for your responses

Hey, man i just put a b16a in my 4th gen civic and im having a similar problem,. when you give it a little gas it feels like the car is lunging, but if you give it lots its fine. I've done about the same thing as you but i also put methal hydrate in the gas to make sure there was no water problem... the next thing im going to check is to see if the timing might be slightly off. I don't know if that helps at all but maybe someone knows the answer to both of our problems?

I was going to say plugs until you mentioned you did a partial tune up.

How old are these plugs from 99-2000 sir?

Sounds like a fueling issue... like too much fuel... check your IAT and the CTS.

just curious, would a faulty fuel pump cause such effects too?

Do a new tune up "evrything new" i know you've socalled done a partial but buy evrything new

plugs/wires = 94 dohc vtec del sol
cap/rotor = 90 integra

ryuujin, a faulty pump results in hot start problems, and WOT conditions. Best way to check that is to spend $50 on a B&M fuel press gauge, and just keep an eye on it. Other than that, it's hard to diagnose that sorta thing.
