Unhappy B16A Computer... No VTEC!

I have a fairly happy 91 civic with a B16a engine, but my engine's computer does not seem to work right.

It's giving a throttle position code and the VTEC does not kick in. When I floor it there is a minor hesitation before it takes off... can anyone help?

I know where the computer is and I have a good working knowledge of general electronics (not automotive specifically). What kind of identifying markers will tell me if I have the right computer hooked up? I wanna nail this thing!

Get under the passenger footwell and look for the code on the ecu. it could be you're running a non-vtec computer. and check your tps sensor while you're at it. these things break fairly easily especially during a swap.

What code am I looking for and where? How do I check my TPS sensor?

I know electronics well, but I'm not brushed up on my automotive details... can a faulty TPS cause the VTEC to remain off?

My friend just had a similar problem he was getting a code on his ECU and vtec was not working, it turned out it was a sensor that connects to the tranny, I can't remeber it for the life of me, something like VSS or something vechile something sensor, it had popped out, we shoved it back in and low and behold VTEC!

how high can you rev too?
if your cutting off at 7300 or so that means your in reservation mode/vtec standby..check to see what code your getting, to check code, you'll see the red light flashing, a solid long red light means 10 and short flashes mean 1
so you can get 23 by having 2 long red flashes, and 3 quick flashes. i hoep you get what i mean....
good luck with that, and enjoy your vtec.

No tach on my car. If I find a code/model number on my computer can anyone verify it is the right piece? Maybe talk me through a check of this condition?
